Yes it is. Way different. Goalkeeper isn't a position you rotate. For an outfield position you need a back up for each position that won't damage the team much by rotating. In defense you should preferably have two players. We currently have 8 defenders.

Who's to say Chelsea didn't have information that Courtois would move somewhere else if they didn't sign him now? They don't have to keep him at Stamford Bridge for now anyway. Loan him out, let him develop and if and when he looks a better option than Cech then phase him back in.
