Yup, my mistake! Obviously knew it was the chef not the actor, but think I'd seen it written as Michael Caine's at the Abode or something so thought they just had the same name, now I know!

I did try the new Australasia place last time I was up in Manc - they are trying to fill the gap for high end dining, was decent enough but not on the level of a Hakkasan which I think is probably their blueprint.

Yeah, thought that was the case. It was excellent when I went though, he wouldn't be far off from another if he really got his team behind it.
I wonder if the demand isn't there so much in Manchester. A lot of Manchester's wealth is from football or entertainment, who probably have lesser demands than international businessmen in the City etc. because the former tend to come from more normal backgrounds. Plus all the other factors like proportionately less diversity than London and perhaps a more Northern trend to stick to what you know? Or eating out being less of a 'thing'? All speculative of course, but the gulf is fairly significant in my experience.
