A quote I read from Giovanni Trapattoni on Del Piero yesterday...

"Del Piero is not Maradona or Pelé, but he is on the level of greats like Eusébio, Sívori, and Cruyff"

I think it's a fair enough comment. Obviously Pele and Maradona stand alone. (Although, personally I'd also put Di Stefano in the top bracket).

Let's leave the current world's best, who are still creating their legacy, like Messi and Ronaldo out of the debate please.

So, which former player, or those currently in their twilight, would you say could make a legitimate claim to be in the second tier of greats.

I'll start with Franco Baresi.
