To qualify my story... this was for a company I worked part-time for and couldn't really give two shits about, as I was trying to find a full-time job in a vastly different kind of organisation. Thus, it mattered little to me how good she would (or would not) have been at the job.
If I were interviewing for someone to work alongside at the company I'm currently at, I would certainly take a vastly different approach.
You would make sure, she is hired, right?
