I think it's a recipe for disaster if I'm being honest when you look at what happened with Hodgson at Liverpool. It's no myth at all that he's clearly a manager who operates best when given a team battling relegation and slightly overachieves by taking them to a mid-table position. That's how he's worked best in this league. Generally though, you get the idea that, for whatever reason, he's not particularly good with big sides. At Liverpool, he had a team which felt they were better than they really were and expected more than they could expect. Sound familiar? Yep, it's the exact same as the English national team. There are certainly worse options, but the fact Hodgson is the most credible candidate really shows the poor standard of English managers at the moment.
