That really is all there is to it when it comes to high vs. low.
The keeper can't get to any of the corners, low or high, if he dives at the same time the ball is struck. They actually analyzed penalties on an ESPN human science program and the ball is in the net before a human can get across.
Of course that doesn't take account of a GK moving a split second early o the shot being weak.
