The United team lined up: Zieler, Lee, Lea, Cathcart, J. Evans, Gibson, Gray, Hewson, Campbell, S. Evans, Rose. Subs: Mullan (8), Amos, Burns (9), Shawcross, C. Evans (7)

United dominated the tie with Cathcart and captain Jonny Evans particularly impressive in central defence. Zieler hardly had a save to make and the United midfield, although starting slowly, finally got their passing game together and the Birmingham side were mainly on the back foot. S. Evans scored his first goal shortly before half time after good work from David Gray on the right wing who cleverly beat his man and pulled the ball back for Sean to hit the net from just inside the box.

Danny Rose was playing on the left side of midfield but moved into the centre when Mullan replaced Hewson. With Mullan playing wide left, Rose started to dictate play along with Gibson. Rose had an excellent game keeping the game ticking over with simple movement and never giving the ball away. Fraizer Campbell worked his socks off with tireless running and United deservedly took a 2-0 lead when Evans scored his second from a tight angle after running on to a through ball. He was a constant thorn for the Birmingham defence and could easily have scored three or four.

In the last 15 minutes, United dominated proceedings and could have won by a larger margin if all our chances had been taken. Towards the end, Irish Schoolboy Corry Evans replaced David Gray and at only 15 years and 137 days old.....became one of the youngest players to appear in our Youth team. Certainly one of the youngest for many years.....

Players of note last night included Cathcart, J. Evans (man of the match!), Rose and S. Evans.....

We now play Sunderland away in the next round in mid January...date to be confirmed.....
the evans two are amazing and that cambel lad is very good
