the new world is an interesting failure. the cut i saw was entirely too long (i hear the later reedited it down a good 20 minutes though) and narratively repetitive, but also included some amazing filmmaking - the opening where the europeans appear in the bay comes to mind as one of the more powerful sequences in recent memory.
