Remove their brain. Sylar killed Claire in the "Five Years Gone" episode by doing what he does best and taking her brain out. You can survive an explosion - Kensei was in amongst all that gunpowder when it detonated last episode, after all.
The first season of Heroes was very good for the first few episodes, but then it tailed off quite dramatically. However, after "Homecoming" it picked up again and was excellent for the rest of the season. This season has done the same thing, and now that the main storyline appears to have kicked in I think it might continue to be great.
Don't really see how they can have two separate story-arcs going, though. Surely if they can change one tiny thing and make episode 11 an ending then surely they've pretty much ended the story arc anyway? I don't want there to be two totally different stories running through a series -- one at the start, and the other at the end. That's not how television works!
