It is always difficult to recommend music to others. It's damn near impossible unless you know the person very well. The changes in music are interpreted different ways in the ear of one person as it is in the ears of another. I mean, a Cm-G7 will not be received the same way by me as it will be by you. Of course, you can always point someone in a direction they wouldn't have chosen themselves.
In my experience, when music has been dulling down or getting boring, I as others here have gone down memory lane, playing the nostalgia card until something comes along, or I stumble upon a new band or something. If you are really lucky, you stumble upon a whole new genre or something you wouldn't expect, and can explore.
The last time that happened for me, was when I was watching A Love Song For Bobby Long. At the time the music seemed magical to me, inspiring. This led me to know Grayson Capps, and a whole new world of music opened up for me to explore. However, it is very difficult to explore local talent in the New Orleans area when you live 1.000's of miles away, but the internet helps
