I'm always sceptical when scientists seem so certain about the inner lives of other animals, especially the so-called 'higher' social ones... how do they know? They don't, a lot of the time.

There's some incredible footage of a bunch of chimps in the Congo, I think... they played it on Life of Mammals or some such a while back. There's this patch of forest that's particularly impressive-looking - big trees around a waterfall - and the chimps have this ritual whenever they pass it, which is to go mental, swinging round and round the trees, yelling... then they move on. They always do this apparently, and even a chimp passing the spot alone will do it. Attenborough or whoever it was speculated that they attach some sort of supernatural significance to it.

And what about all that stuff with elephants' graveyards? Someone told me the other day they now think the elephants are just getting salt off the bones. I don't believe that, on the grounds that I don't want to.

Also, all termites consider me a living god. That's why they build those mound things... it's in my honour. The daft little cnuts.
