They are complaining, I used a stat for a university essay on challengers to the US in the 21st century, the number of protests in China rose from around 4,000 in 1993 to 80,000 in 2003. Bare in mind there are two Chinas'- one of which is urban Western China where state control is 'relatively' relaxed, and then there is remote rural China where state control is very, very heavy. The international press is largely banned from reporting outside of the major cities or even leaving the major cities- it really is a hidden world.
Also another unknown fact about China is that they have internal passports, to move from rural to urban China you have to be in possession of NINE different permits- without the required permits you cannot access any social services or provisions annd if you are discovered you will be deported- this system has been somewhat relaxed of late but it still remains very, very draconian.
One of the great tragedies of the Bush Administration that due to the likes of Camp Gitmo it has lost the moral highground on human rights but to claim that the United States cannot criticize China is a fallacy- China is a very closed off country and we will never know most of the secrets it holds but some of the claims, accusations and investigations that have gone on are very, very disturbing.
