Totally agree with you. And he is equally effective as a CM. I don't know how some of the fans here think Carrick is head and shoulders above Hargreaves. Hargreaves is the best defensive midfielder England has got. THat's why he is picked in the England squad ahead of Carrick. Carrick is a fine player but he is a central midfielder not a defensive central midfielder. There are better CMs than Carrick within England ranks but none better in defensive midfield than Hargreaves.

So it is not pointless having Hargreaves. But because of his outstanding crossing ability he is equally effective in wingback. And his running is only matched by Evra.
