I don't know why some people are dismissing Villa for the reason that he is a small striker and we already have small striker's. Strikers are not defined in style by big and small, they're defined mostly by their movement.
I think we can agree at times we need a different option to Rooney and Tevez who are both naturally similar in their movement, and as a consequence of that we sometimes lack penetration aswell as a player who can comfortably play upfront on his own at the highest level. This is why Ronaldo is favoured up front in Europe when we play a more thought out counter attacking style.
I haven't heard SAF or Queiroz say we need a big target man type striker as foil for either Rooney or Tevez. However SAF has said he feels a out and out centre forward for Rooney to play off would perhaps get the best out of him, I don't see why Villa cant be this striker. Queiroz has also not said we need a big striker, CQ said we need a player with different movement to Rooney and Tevez.
IMO Villa would be as close to ideal as you could get, add another 5 inches on top and what more could you ask for? He stretches defences and creates space for flair players. He scores all types of goals and is proven as a striker that can lead the line at the highest level for club and country.
I think the reason why Spain prefer to play Fabregas inbehind Torres is because Torres and Villa make the same runs to the detrement of each other and the fluidity of the national team and Torres is the type of player we wouldnt have minded before he joined the dippers.
Villa is small, but he is a different type of player to Rooney and Tevez, and he would be a good signing for us and would give us the penetration we sometimes lack. Villa would add another dimension to our team and stop us being a predictable team that plays all it's football infront of the defence, which we sometimes are.
