jazz, pronounced "yazz," is a form of music which originates from the south of america at the turn of the 20th century. originally played on household instuments such as pots and pans and washboards, jazz quickly grew in popularity and people started to play it using saxomaphones and flutes.

the popularity of jazz was most evident in new orleans. quickly it became an adjective that was used by all in every day conversations. popular sayings at the time were "im having a bully day, the jazzing weather is lovely", "i love girl willys, especially jazz ones" and "jazz is jazz."

jazz really hit the big in the 1910's with jazz very rarely outside of the top ten worldwide. in 1912 it was the most popular form of downloaded music. itunes estimated 1 in every 3 songs downloaded was jazz and it was compulsory to have at least 1 jazz song on your ipod.

prohibition slowed the growth of jazz in the 1920's but could not stop it altogether. though people couldn't drink they would calm themselves by humming jazz classics such as "ooops mrs jones, i've trodden on your wobblies" and "oh mrs smedley, ive smegged on your duddlies."

jazz has continued to be popular right up to the present day with successful bands such as boyzone and the spice girls passionately keeping it alive.
