Leeds United Supporters' Club chief Ray Fell backed the club's decision to place Bowyer on the transfer list.
"I am totally surprised by the news, as all fans of the club will be, but our main concern is what happens to the club," said Fell.
"Lee Bowyer has been a highly influential player for us, but the fans feel that the club must always come first."
