While Tevez continues playing this well, Rooney plays out of position or he sits on the bench.
If Rooney finds some form and/or Tevez loses his, the situation willl be reversed. This is what's known as competition for places. It's a good thing. Hardly mind-boggling either.

In fairness, I cannot remember the last time that Rooney was played in a position that we would call "natural" to him for a concerted period.
Last season, Rooney and Tevez were essentially our two only striking options so I do not see how you conclude that Tevez was and is only cover for Rooney.
I don't see how the competition is at all fair. It stands to reason that if you play one player in a position where he is at ease (Tevez) and stick the other in an alien position (Rooney) then naturally the player out of his position will not compare favourably.
How on earth can we expect Rooney to get back to any sort of form playing in the role he did on Saturday.
Tevez is an endearing little so and so because of his work ethic. Granted, he has also popped up with some invaluable strikes. But in the ability stakes, he is not a patch on Rooney.
