The interesting thing about Fletcher's performance was to seem him running midfield, "unfettered" by the normal presence of Scholes or Carrick. Whenever the latter are in the team Fletcher does tend to play second fiddle. Armed with the additional responsibility it brought out the best in him. On this evidence he is more than a capable stand in for Carrick or Scholes. Another selection headache for Fergie. One that he won't mind.
