MCSHANE DEBUTS FOR RESERVES
DUBLIN Irish underage International defender
Paul McShane made his Manchester United reserve team
debut on Thursday evening in a 3-1 win over
Birmingham city side that included "eight" first team
players – two of them being Irish Internationals
Clinton Morrison and Jeff Kenna. McShane had a
job to do on Thursday evening, that of the man
marking of Trinidad & Tobago International and
Birmingham City striker Stern John! In his post match
Interview, Paul was asked how his debut went, and
what it was like to have the job of marking the
26-year-old Blues striker. "I thought it {debut}
went ok, Paul said "They've {Birmingham} got
quality player's and there was a load of
Internationals on show tonight. He {Stern John} was a tough
fella. He's got loads of ability, but then again
their whole side has". McShane progressed from
United's U17 side to their youth side last season –
the latter of the two being a combination of the
U17's and U19's. Let's not forget that Paul will
not turn 18 years of age until January next year.
And the Wicklow native now looks set to make the
permanent switch up to reserve team football at
United judging from his performance, and by the
comment's from Mutv commentator Steve Bowyer and
former Celtic and Manchester United legend Paddy
Crerand. "We're going to hear, and see a lot more
from Paul McShane, I'm sure", Crerand said Paul
took his Irish U19 International bow on September
20th this year, when Sean McCaffrey's side ran out
10-1 winner's over San Marino, breaking the Irish
international record for the number of goals
scored in a single match. United's next reserve game
is on October 7th away to Everton and McShane
will look certain to partner United youth team
player Alan Tait in the centre of defence again. From
all your friends at soccercentral.ie Paul, good
luck with the rest of the season!
