Having seen all episodes of The West Wing, it is a good program but if you are not very interested in the American political system, I'd skip it especially as there are over 140 episodes to get through.
The Sopranos is probably the best written TV show ever. I could watch the the Pine Barrens episode and the Christoper intervention scene again and again! Thought the last season was a real let down, though.
Overall, The Wire is the most rewarding programme to watch. It's like the writers had decided on the story for all the seasons decided from the get go. Every single character has a story arc which fits in perfectly with everyone elses.
