For many years, even with Liverpools dominance, Barca v Real held greater sway as they always had the more glamorous stars but Utd have become the worlds most supported club hands down over a decade or so and therefore Utd v L'pl has a greater audience.
Also, the rivalry is so fierce that only only Owen & Ince have played for both clubs in the last dozen years with NO player moving directly between clubs since 1964.
This shows the disdain between the fans AND the club whereas players have frequently played for Barca/Real, Rangers/Celtic, Milan/Inter or Boca/River, some even signing directly from each other.
Tide has turned, we're a bigger game now...
