Really feels like a consolation cup. Win the Carling Cup and you're in the Europa League. 3rd in the CL group stages and you're in the Europa League.
De Gea Rafael - Evans - Smalling - Fabio Valencia - Cleverley - Carrick - Nani Berbatov - Chicharito Subs: Amos, Pogba, Park, Jones, Evra, Rooney, Welbeck Athletic to win 2-0. |

Opening post.Agree with most, keep the likes of Evans, Evra, Carrick, Nani, Rooney, Welbeck behind. Not worth the risk. Kompany going off on Thursday has fucked them. With all our problems this season with injuries, it's just not worth it. Either way I don't think this is a game we'll win, hopefully city go through and keep getting the games and some injuries. Edit - Interesting statistic, should we go out, it'll be the first time in 10 years we haven't reached a Cup Final. |

I don't see us going out and winning this one. Bilbao will be up for it, and I doubt we will be, as we've got more important matter to focus on.
The fact we're now top of the league changes everything in my opinion. Before, we were just in the title race but weren't favourites. Now, we're on top and we can sniff it. The Europa League is only going to distract us from that scent, and it's an unnecessary distraction. |

We should go all out to win this.
It's embarssing the way we were battered by the 4/5th best team in their league. Everyone and their nan can se we are miles of Barca and Madrid right now but... Bilbao!? |

Oh piss off and eat some Pad Thai. All you ever do is fucking moan about our squad, point out how much worse we are than Barca/Madrid/City and demand new signings. Change the record ffs.

I want us to go all out and as soon as we're two goals up, take off a few key players and try and keep possession and control the game.
Such as going 2/3-0 up, take off Rooney for Berbatov, Carrick for Pogba. That kinda thing. it may be the Europa League, but fuck it, I want us to give it a good go and I'd be pleased if we were to win it/get to the final. |

Well obviously. That's what I'd want to happen in an ideal world. But I do think we're going to score a couple, just a case of not letting them score and if we play our best back line (which at the moment has to be Rafael, Rio, Evans, Evra imo) we'll stand a better chance.
All of this play the reserves bollocks just isn't going to happen. SAF has always said we're going to take this competition seriously, and rightly so. No way is he going to go in to a second leg of a European Competition, one goal behind, and play a severely weakened team and accept a defeat and being knocked out. I can't see it happening on Thursday at all |

I get your point. Neither do I want us to crash out, but the Premier League is just so much sweeter and with our current squad I just don't think we can compete on two fronts. |

Yeah, that's how I see it. Despite the common belief being that United have all their players back, we are still at the top of the list according to PhysioRoom. Someone above mentioned Kompany's injury picked up last week in Lisbon, and the last thing we need is to jeopardise our league prospects for what is essentially almost a lost cause.

The scoreline favours Bilbao, the weather conditions will favour Bilbao and the support in the ground will massively be in Bilbao's favour as well. United have never turned around a first leg home defeat and qualified, but despite all this ... I still think we can do it!

Athletic Bilbao is our bitch and it should remain that way. We must and im confident we will beat these guys 3 or 4 nil, they have talent and tradition but so do we. We should look to qualify for the final and win the bastard thing. Who the fuck is Bilbao, lets win.

I want us to go for this with a strong team, we've got Wolves away who have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 5 games so we should get a win there (I know, I know, complacency and banana skins, but we have to take each game as it comes)
De Gea Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra Valencia Carrick Cleverley Scholes Nani Rooney Hit em hard. |

Well, Park can certainly play against Bilbao and Wolves, so perhaps he can play on the wing which will allow Giggs to play centrally. If we could have Giggs and Cleverley in the middle that would look pretty good. Or Giggs-Jones again would be fine with me. Though I can't help but think SAF is leaning towards Carrick and Giggs, maybe give Scholes and Cleverley the Wolves game after giving Cleverley one more subs appearance.
Jones may be forced to play in defense, though Rio has played two games in quick succession already this season, it may be that time again. If we can get Evans and Rio for both games then we'd be in great shape. Evra is used to playing constantly, and Rafael or Jones at RB is fine. But I really think we should give Berbatov a game here, if not now, when? Surely he deserves a start for his loyalty, it's not like he's not scoring goals, his return rate per game and per minute is better than Chicharito or Welbeck. It's just not like SAF to worry about injuries, especially when we're behind and playing away from home, I think his pride will get the best of him and he'll play a strong team. Jones Evans Rio Evra Carrick Giggs Nani Rooney Young Welbeck or the slightly more conservative Rafael Evans Rio Evra
Jones Giggs Park Berbatov Young Chicharito |

DDG Jones Ferdinand Evans Evra Scholes Carrick Cleverly Nani Rooney Welbeck Best team available with 433 for me, will be interesting to see if he goes with the formation. Why do so money think this is all over, that's the impression I get anyway. The midfield we put out last time was a joke, it will be alot better this time and we will play better. We are united and it's never over till the final whistle. |

United need to win by at least a two goal margin or win (any margin) while scoring at least 4 goals
A 3-2 United win would see the match go into extra time I am looking forward to this match as I am convinced it's going to be an electric atmosphere |
