Sir Alex to make changes
The Reds lost the corresponding match during their visit in 2006 on penalties and Sir Alex is aiming for a different result this time round.

"We’ll play a very competitive team and one I expect to get a good result for us," he declared at his pre-match press conference on Friday. "We hope to take the big trophy home, which we didn’t do last time."

With two games in two days to come against the Chiefs in South Africa and Portsmouth in Nigeria, the United boss will make full use of his squad, with the likes of Rodrigo Possebon, Tom Cleverley and Craig Cathcart, who flew out to South Africa on Thursday, set to be given a run-out.

"I’ll be playing one team on Saturday and there’ll be a lot of changes for the game on Sunday because it’s only 24 hours later," he explained. "The nucleus of the side will play on Saturday – there might be an issue with the heat and altitude but we’ll monitor how the players are progressing during the game.

"Making changes is the nature of the business at the moment. We want to give everyone enough time on the field to make sure the fitness and tempo of their game is improving. Hopefully by this time next week we’ll be really ready for the season."

The Reds played out a 1-1 draw with the Chiefs last weekend in a somewhat feisty encounter. And having watched them overcome local rivals Orlando Pirates on Thursday evening, Sir Alex is expecting another tough test in Tshwane on Saturday.

"We’ve seen the Kaizer Chiefs’ ability and we saw the game last night [against Orlando Pirates] and it was a very, very aggressive game," he said.

"I think it’s important we see a good game on Saturday. The referee has a responsibility and a role to play in making sure it’s a good game. There’ll be plenty of good footballers on the field and that’s why spectators are here. I’m sure if we do get a good referee then it will be a fantastic game."

Cathcart, Cleverly and Possebon join United tour
Three Manchester United teenagers are flying out to South Africa to join the squad.

Defender Craig Cathcart (19) has been drafted in as well as midfielders Tom Cleverly (18) and Rodrigo Possebon (19).

The trio have all played for the reserves and will link up with United who play their final game in the Vodacom Challenge on Saturday in Pretoria.

Then the squad will move on to Nigeria for a friendly against Portsmouth before flying home.

It's awesome! You made a wise move by not having a "Profiles" section in your matchday thread, it would have been crap compared to my amazing and very accurate analysis of the up-coming game where Rooney and Bartlett will make their mark on the game by going head to head in what can only be described as a war for goals.

Awesome!

I think you should change it to Eagles V Quartey! Now that is a guaranteed goal fest if I have ever seen one!

No it's already brilliantly perfect! In fact it might just be the best match day thread ever made on the Caf, yet alone the internet.

I really need to get out more...

This extra section is a cracking idea.

Pity there's always spastic squabbling over who starts the matchday threads during the season, cause Top would get my nomination to do this on a regular basis.

This is the fourth pre-season game. Let's hope we see a perfromance from United this time. We've looked very lightweight upfront so far. Hardly encouraging with Ronaldo out and no real progress on a striker coming in

Nice work Top, looking forward to this one I have a feeling we are going to batter them. I'm going for 4-0 with Tevez 1, Rooney 1, Eagles 1 , Scholes 1.

Lets not be too hasty her Pogue. We could very well lose this game, and then Top would have to be banned from making match day threads for life

We have to make up for the defeat of last season. There is a trophy at stake here and Sir Alex desperately wants to win it.

Yes it is a 3 team tournament/Challenge and now we are in the final with Kaizer Chiefs as the Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates.

The last 3 look alright, Aberdeen, Kaiser Chiefs, Pirates but surely the match before that was the CL final which we won and the one before that the Wigan game which we won ? That's 4 wins and a draw.

Do any UK posters know of any re-runs of these tour games? I remember in past years watching repeats on obscure channels such as Bravo and one of the ITV channels.

what would have happened if we drew 1-1 with Orlando Pirates, and then those 2 also drew 1-1. Who would play the final

The champions league final went to extra time (and penalties), which counts as a draw since we didn't win it in regular time.

Well in reality the CL final ended 1-1 and we then won on penalties, but I guess it should be a W, yes.

If it is all square after 90 minutes, is it extra-time and penalties or straight to penalties ?
