here's hoping we crash out of the CL, so in the event Chelsea shoot themselves in the foot at some stage this season we'll be there with a chance.
Fuckin' hate Fergie tinkering in league games ahead of these useless boring European cup games. |

Scholes Giggsy - Fletcher - Ronaldo (Park) Smith Richardson Mickey Rio O´Shea van der Sar Last edited by Giggsy PO; 24th September 2005 at 23:50. Reason: replacing Park with Ronaldo |

O'Shea is likely to be out injured.
How about.... --------------------Ed----------------------- ----Bardsley-----Rio---Mikky-----Richardson---- -----Park-------Fletch---Smith-------Giggs---- ----------------Ruud-----Ronaldo------------- A more conventional 4-4-2 with Ronaldo playing in a free role just off Ruud. Ronnie could also interchange with Parka and Giggs. Scholes dropping to the bench to try Fletch and Smith in the centre of midfield together as they have the most energy out of all our options. Bench would be down to bare bones now.... Howard Pique Miller Scholes Rossi Fuck knows... a defender and an attack minded player from the reserves. Would normally be Spector or MacShane, Ritchie Jones played there the other week, he's about the most senior option, Johnny Evans had a good game the other week but has only played for the reserves just recently, even so, whoever this would be would be for an emergency anyway..... As for the attack minded player - Blake or Lee Martin. It's time like these you wish the likes of Spector, MacShane, Dave Jones, Chris Eagles and co weren't out on loan!!!! Potentially there are 4 places on the bench up for grabs between the youngsters at the club and that's with 2 of them starting!!!!! |

I like that a lot, give Rossi a chance, let's see how good he is, and if he can step it up in a big-game situation. |

We know fergie will go for a 4-3-3, so i'd like to see this:
------------------VDS---------------------- Bardsley------Rio-------Silvestre---Richardson -----------Smith---Fletcher---Park---------- Ronaldo-----------------------------Giggs--- ------------------Ruud---------------------- Park over scholes simply because scholes doesn't work in this formation. However, if a miracle happens, and we see fergie play a 4-4-2, then I'd like: ---------------VDS-------------------- Bardsley----Rio---Silvestre--Richardson-- Ronaldo----Smith----Fletcher----Park--- -----------Scholes--------------------- -------------------Ruud---------------- Scholes would definitely work in this. |

Benfica striker Simao Sabrosa is confident they can add to Manchester United's problems by beating them in their UEFA Champions League clash.
United host Benfica at Old Trafford on Tuesday night with the Portuguese champions aiming to pile the pressure on Sir Alex Ferguson. Ferguson is finding himself under scrutiny following Saturday's defeat to Blackburn and Liverpool target Simao believes they can benefit from the pressure United are under at the minute. "The name of Manchester United always makes an impression but they have shown that there is nothing to be scared of by playing them," Simao told the Daily Star. "The great advantage we have is the mistakes being made by their defenders. "Manchester United are not at their best at the moment and it is a great opportunity for Benfica. Old Trafford holds no fears. "Edwin van der Sar is a better goalkeeper than they had before but they make so many errors in defence it does not matter. "They are now under pressure and we know that. "United without [Roy] Keane, [Gabriel] Heinze, [Gary] Neville and [Wayne] Rooney is one that can be beaten." Meanwhile, Benfica duo Geovanni and Giorgias Karagounis have been passed fit to make the trip to England to play United. Both players have missed the last two league games through injury, but they have recovered in time to make Ronald Koeman's squad for the United clash. I hope we can make him eat his words |

Rooney Starts Two-Game Ban
Manchester United will be without Wayne Rooney as they look to ease the growing pressure on Sir Alex Ferguson with an Old Trafford Champions League win over Benfica on Tuesday. Rooney serves the first game of a two-match ban picked up for his dismissal against Villarreal a fortnight ago, with Park Ji-Sung favoured to retain his place. Ferguson, who was booed by his own fans in the wake of Saturday's home defeat to Blackburn, will be sweating on the fitness of defender John O'Shea, who limped out of the 2-1 loss. Roy Keane (broken foot), Gary Neville (groin), Gabriel Heinze (knee) are are among the big names definitely missing. Man United (from): Van der Sar, Howard, O'Shea, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Pique, Richardson, Smith, Fletcher, Scholes, Miller, Ronaldo, Giggs, Park, Van Nistelrooy, Rossi, Blake. |

some interesting stats...
http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?h...el=premiership No Euro joy for Roy Manchester United prepare to face Benfica this week as Sir Alex Ferguson once again tries to add a second European Cup to his list of honours. Success in Europe has become an obsession to the Old Trafford supremo and he has frequently highlighted how important Roy Keane is to the cause. But while Keane was undoubtedly the driving force in the successful 1998-99 European Cup campaign, his effectiveness in recent seasons has diminished. Indeed, the statistics show that in the past four seasons, United have won a higher percentage of games when the Irishman has been absent. Worryingly for Ferguson, United have scored fewer goals and conceded more often when his captain has been in the starting line-up. In fact, they have not kept a clean sheet in Keane's last six appearances in the Champions League. While it is unfair to blame Keane for declining powers in his veteran years, it appears that Ferguson has failed to come up with a true successor to the United number 16. And without a true replacement, the club's chances of landing Europe's biggest prize once again appear remote. Roy Keane in CL since 2001-02 With Without Wins 12 14 Draws 6 5 Defeats 7 3 Win % 48% 64% Loss % 28% 14% Goals 45 47 Goals/game 1.8 2.14 Goals against 28 21 Goals against/game 1.12 0.95 |

If Micky and O'Shea are out, and Brown as well, the back four could feature 2 unproven youngsters and 1 converted midfielder.
Bardsley--Rio--Pique--Richardson I think the trio could prove doubters wrong in a one-off match, but not sure over a long haul of 3-5 matches or more. Then again, Bardsley may be the next Gary Neville and Pique looks to have a great future ahead of him. When is Fortune's anticipated return? What about 3-4-3? Would be a risk against a quality opponent in Europe and with 2 unproven defenders. -----------------VDS------------------ -----Bardsley-----Rio------Pique------- Park----Fletcher----Smith----Richardson ------Ronaldo-------------Giggs-------- ----------------Ruud------------------- |
