2011 NCAA Football

So, tonight marks the start of the college football season. I'm excited. We host Stanford next weekend though.

Pretty impressive performance from LSU. The Ducks offense was lame .

USC absolutely shagged Minnesota in the first half, but they almost staged an incredible comback! And with a fresher quarterback in the 4th quarter since firstchoice quarterback Marquis Gray had to go out with cramps. Ended 19-17 to USC. Robert Woods and Matt Barkley were on fire in the first half, Woods set a new school record with 17 pass caught for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Barkley set another school record with 34 passes for 304 yards and still didn't score in the second half Cool game.

Meanwhile in college football, Oregon State punt for minus 4 yards.

No block, no tips, no deflections. Just a negative yardage punt.

We won a game! Duke 20 BC 19!

Also, conference realignment...ugh. I liked the old ACC, but football needs more blood for the blood god.

More sad news for Rutgers.

A year and 6 days after Eric LeGrand was paralysed following an attempted tackle during a kick off return, his team mate Anthony Conner last night broke his neck attempting to make a tackle also

That's terrible news, Erics_Collar! Any word on Conner?

After getting mauled by Nebraska last Saturday, time to look forward to Iowa visiting the TCF Bank Stadium. Will be a shame to see Floyd disappear back to the Hawkeyes, but I can't see ANY way the Gophers can win this game, short of an actual miracle.

My alma mater are currently top of the FCS (formerly 1-AA). We are the most sucessful team in FCS history but have been in a bit of a funk most of the last decade for one reason or another. Finally looking like the team I grew up watching.

Those are some ferocious defences. 3-3 at HT, LSU starts with the ball in the second half.

Bunch of scoring dynamos there, jveezy.

I'll raise you Pittsburgh Steelers beating Miami 3-0 on MNF in 2007.

JoePa has owned the campus police for years, looks like he won't be able to sweep this one under the rug.

What I posted in the thread about this issue but only has 3 posts in it:

He's held in extremely high esteem by the media and until this, he's been one of the most respected people in sports. A few months ago, he and Mike Krzyzewski shared a stage to talk about leadership and ethics, etc. Both have run programs that are considered above the typical shadiness of most major college sports programs. As a Duke alum, I cannot imagine Coach K ever doing the same thing that Paterno has done. I also can't imagine any of the assistants not handling something similar properly. We had our ordeal in 2006 with the Duke Lacrosse case when everything the coaches, players, and local officials did was under insane scrutiny. Despite not being involved, Coach K offered his help to the President of the university if it was needed. He's the most powerful man at the school and was willing to take leadership in the issue despite not being involved. The two of them are fairly similar. Both are the winningest(or will be in the next two weeks) coaches in their respective sports. They have demonstrated leadership over a long period of time and have run clean programs. They do it "the right way." Until this time, it appears JoePa didn't.

From what is known now, it seems like Paterno did the opposite. He passed the buck without making any concrete steps to solve the problem. Admittedly, he shouldn't have been involved in the first place. The man who saw the shower incident should have gone to the police. Not Paterno. Still, once he did, Paterno's first step should have been to call the police. The athletics administrators failed their jobs miserably in this and should also have gone to the police. In a program full of grown men(most of them fathers), none of them did the right thing. Legally, Paterno may be solid, but ethically, he failed miserably. It could be a result of his age, but he didn't do the right thing.

As one of the few deified college coaches, he's got a great deal of public goodwill, but he's failed to meet the standard that has been attributed to him. I like to think that the coach closest to me, Coach K, would never let such a thing occur so I can understand the disbelief and emotion from Penn State fans. However, I don't think he can reasonably go on.

Pretty much. No one wanted to deal with it and all wanted it to go away instead of doing their jobs and meeting their moral obligations. It's pathetic.

Definitely the right move, a real sad end to a great career, and this will taint his legacy, but there was no other option.

He obviously didn't commit these horrible acts, but his silence allowed them to continue - and that is unforgivable.

Yesterday will only have been the tip of the iceberg if today's rumors turn out to be true - Sandusky was allegedly pimping out 'Second Mile' kids to wealthy donors to the charity. Disgusting.

watching the local news here in Omaha and there's concern for the husker fans heading to the game. I think it's overblown a bit, unless they're stupid and try to wind up the Penn State fans about this scandal.

Penn State fans are a nasty bunch to be fair. Not much different than Nebraska going to CU back in the 90's (not sure how it is now).

a video of a couple of misbehaving kids doesn't make psu fans a nasty bunch. you can find that for any big team. As a PSU alum I can tell you that every single PSU fan I know is anything but nasty. I don't think JoePA was right personally but to many PSU fans their SAF has just been fired by the Glazers. You'll get some damage after that.
