All-Ireland Championships '08

'Tis back again!......usually starts after Utd. (hopefully) clinch the Premiership!.......any predictions out there ?
Here's mine;
(1)Football;
Leinster.....Dublin.
Connacht...Mayo
Munster.....Cork(could catch kingdom cold!)
Ulster......Monaghan...("well, I am a Monaghanman originally")!
All-Ireland Champs......Kingdom of Kerry(via backdoor)!
On the coat-tails..Derry, Galway,Meath.

Hurling;
Leinster....K'kenny
Munster....Cork
Ulster.......Antrim
All-Ireland Champions......Galway.
On the coat-tails... Tipp, Wexford....(Antrim could well run Galway close, but come up 4 or 5 pts short!).

A good outside bet next Sun., could be Antrim to bt Cavan ...12/5 via ladbrokes (or even a draw 7/1)......... Cavan had a very poor league, relegated to Div.3........ Antrim just missed out on promotion to Div.3 (albeit with 2 poor defeats to Waterford & Tipp).
However, Antrim have home advantage, & while Cavan are favs, this is the one "stand-out-shock" possibility for Sun. next!

Down to brass tax lads....are Dublin going to win the All-Ireland or not?

I say no.

Is there any reason why the Kingdom won't win it again?....not at this stage, no.

Not a chance. Just cannot perform for a whole match. And too many discipline problems when we lose a couple of points.

Can't see much further than Kerry for the football. But I think Mayo can push them. And maybe Cork.

The Cats for the hurling. I'd love to see Waterford win it though.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kerry win the next three on the spin.

As a Mayo man, we should win Connacht but we're missing a center-forward big time and Ciaran Mac isn't the answer. Pierce Hanley going to Australia was a massive loss, I'd even go so far as to say that we'd win an All-Ireland with this squad if Hanley was back.

Closest to Kerry could be Galway who have found a number of gems during the league but they need to replace the likes of Joyce quickly. Meehan doesn't show in the big games and their forward line is far too slow to beat the northern sides.

Fair play to Fermanagh, deservingly beat my own co., Monaghan last Sun. We simply never got out of the blocks, Gary McQuaid fully deserved his red card...... Hopefully we can recover something in the qualifiers.
Again, congrats to the Ernesiders, I would love to see them win their 1st Ulster title!

Everyone else had a fair idea......maybe not a 9 point hammering, but all week the talk was that Clare would probably do them. Clare shouldn't get too carried away though, it might be their first win in Munster for 5 years or whatever, but a weak and demoralised Deise still got 23 scores against them.

Derry showed well yesterday in the football, tough opener they had there, and they went behind as well.

Any Meath men here?

That shows how little I know about hurling so.

I'm not from Meath but live there.

dublin looked good today - against a very poor side ... although that young lad in the midfield fennel was great, .. super debut and we've needed someone to shoulder Whelo's burden for a while now ... Brogan was as good as he can be , which is pretty decent and that tosser Vaughan seems to be aware that he's been shite lately and he looked full of effot when he came on ... all in all as good as can be expected ... was a bit less optimistic this year than the previous two but today restored some of it ... could be a good summer - if one of the nordie teams knocks kerry out for us!

Dublin looked absolutely shite today. Their full back line was pulled all over the place. If Dessie Dolan had kept his shooting boots on for the last 10 minutes then Westmeath would have won. If Dublin play like that against a decent team then they will be out of the All Ireland for another year.

From a Westmeath prospective, Dublin hammered us at this stage last year. We have a good team and we will hold our own in the qualifiers. I am sure no one will want to play us.

Hope Dublin kick the fuck out of the Yella Bellies

Dublin need to up it, but it's still early - they're planning for September, so no panic for the Jackeens.

There's a rake of Dublin flags all over my estate and there's murder over it....they were even screaming at each other on the Joe Duffy Show the other day over it. I think it's a disgrace. I just want to be able to wear my Paul Galvin jersey in peace, but no there's no chance of that now....all because of the Dublin flags.

Cork this weekend....I think to the panels these Munster finals have lost a bit of importance or credibility since the back door came in. If we win it's our 9000th Munster title, if they win, we'll beat them later on. As a supporter though, I just love beating Cork. It's just one of those things you never get sick of doing. It's 50/50 though. Obviously, we're better than them, but it's all about September, not June/July.

Armagh looked strong yesterday. Dont think ive seen Brogan have a quieter game for Dublin. Dont think they'll win it, too many question marks about the defense.

Brogan was totally marked out of the game. Most of the Dublin forwards looked fairly average yesterday, all of them actually.
