"I am shocked and surprised because I was extra cautious and never used any banned substances," said Asif.

In a statement the league said: "The Indian Premier League confirms the player in violation is Mohammad Asif.

"It was also checked if Mr Mohammad Asif had applied for and was granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). It was found that Mr Mohammad Asif had not applied for a TUE.

"A note in writing has been sent to the player and his home board and to the franchisee on the findings."

Beyond a joke. That's pretty much every tournament he's attended in the last year or two.

He should know by now he is walking on a fine line here. What is a (TUE)? Is it purely performance enhancing or is he taking a certain medicine that contains something it shouldn't...

They should have to say what substance they find I reckon.

Its not the best part of his career right now, and he's had a few injuries including a major shoulder injury that put him out for a while. He's a good bowler and those injuries were mainly caused by overuse. I hope he sorts his head out now.

Doubt it'll be a life ban. Couple of years, I suppose though that would effectively end his career. Have they said if its peformance enhancing or recreational? That could make a difference.

It's probably nandrolone. Although, it has to be said, he's really skinny, so it's clearly not helped him put on muscle mass. That said, nandrolone also aids recovery and helps sportsman train more rigorously.

(Assuming it was nandrolone and not a recreational drug)

I've been reading up on Nandrolone. . .and for some reason sportsman that have tested positive for this steroid always seem to get cleared. I find this baffling. They claim the body produces high levels of nandrolone. . .depending on the diet. I reckon sportmen are aware of this hence the use. Christie, Mark Richardson, Ottey, Kodra, Dugarry, Rudeski, Akhtar. . .to name a few have all tested positive. . .and have been let off the hook. Although Davids, Couto and Stam recieved a few months ban, each.

Apparently Dwain Chambers was caught taking THG. Which is ten times more potent than Nandrolone. . .and it probably explains why they've got a tougher stance on other steroids. Still, if it's a banned substance then there shouldn't be any excuses. . .nor should the authorities be letting them off the hook.

I know the IPL and the Pakistani Board have an image to protect, but everyone should damn back off from players personal lives.

I think it's a massive violation of privacy, so what if they take party drugs. It's only going to ruin him from the inside - laughable, but within his rights.

Yes players do have personal lives and its up to them at the end of the day but according to the tests its a banned substance so they don't have much of a choice. He was also arrested at Dubai airport authorities for carrying drugs (recreational I think they were) but they have strict laws on that kind of thing.

I doubt it is such performance enhancing drugs though but that is only a guess. He has been injured a fair bit and that was what happened when him and Shoaib got caught, they claimed it was in some medicine they took - obviously to increase recovery time.

Like I said before maybe they should have to say what substance was found, especially if they make a decision not to punish them as harsh as other offenders.
