Burmese History For Dummies

So...anyone well-informed on Burma want to fill me in? I know the name Aung San Suu Kyi and house arrest and not a great deal else. I'm teaching a 6th year class about Burmese history tomorrow so any clear, concise info from decades ago up to the present day would be appreciated. Help me to become a better informed person/put on a slightly less disastrous lesson.

Think of it as a competition between RedCade and Wikipedia.

Burma had an election, a party won, the army didn't like it so they told everyone to gtfo and that they're going to run the country and anyone who tried to stand up against them was arrested. That's about as much as you need to know.

John Pilger had a good documentary on Burma a while back - it should be available on google videos...
