Explosion in Oslo - govt. headquarters hit

Reports of a massive explosion in the govt. offices in Oslo just minutes ago. It seems the Prime Ministers offices are hit. No official numbers on wounded/casualties yet but several people injured.

It is now confirmed it is a bomb in downtown Oslo that has gone off, not in the govt. offices but nearby.

that is going to bad. i hope it is just the two cases, and the Emergency Services are geared to deal with an event like this. have there been earlier incidents of bombing in Norway?

No I've never seen anything like this. Downtown Oslo looks like a war zone at the moment. Still no reports of casualties.

Conflicting reports regarding the number of explosions. The blast was felt several miles away.

Apparently the first explosion happened at around 4.30PM local time and the second explosion half an hour later. A lot of conflicting reports at the moment.

The amount of damage looks massive. The casualties could be quite high judging from how that building looks

Shot in the dark; Islamic fundamentalists. There was the issue of offensive cartoons that depicted the Mulsim Prophet in an unflattering light.

A publicity-seeking Norwegian editor of a Christian magazine joined in to piss off as many muslims as possible. And we've been one of USA's lapdogs during their crusades.

Libya already being blamed in some quarters. Alternatively, anywhere that has a lot of oil.

Someone taking Tour de France a little bit too seriously?

In all seriousness, despicable. Hope they kill (not catch, a prison sentence in Norway is like a vacation) the cnuts responsible for this.

Looks like a hell of a lot of damage, what sort of home made bomb could have caused that?

Norwegian person on another board:

'They're talking about a carbomb on the TV now (black car parked outside the building), but they're all guessing - it's chaos in Oslo at the moment.'

Christ, that's awful.

If they didn't get any warning beforehand there could be a horrendous amount of casualties. Thoughts are with our Noggie caftards. I hope none of you have friends/families affected.

I think the Muhammad cartoons were published in a book here in Norway not many weeks ago. This could be payback for that.

Almost certainly not a "horrendous" amount of casualties. There are reports of fatalities, but not very many, and maybe a few dozen injured. A lot for Norway, though. We've never had a terrorist attack.

Islam has been pissed off with us for a while now. Norway is certainly one of the western countries where I could see something like this happening.

- We've pissed people off by printing Muhammad cartoons
- We're involved both in Afghanistan and in Libya
- We've given the Nobel peace prize to controversial (and undeserving) people

Just to name a few.

I'm echoing the sentiments above -- absolutely horrified by the news, and my thoughts are with the Norwegian people and of course all of our Norwegian Caffites and their families.

Following this through Aftenposten's website at the moment. It feels unreal.

Islam isn't pissed off with Norway, a select group of simpletons with absolutely no sense of perspective (or humour) are pissed off.
