So why leave out the developed Asian nations? Why the US and EU only?

If you bought any black electronic equipment of a reasonable quality in the past 25 years it would have been made in Japan. Not any more!

I see. Intel has most of its (all?) factories in the Europe and the US. I've been to their Dresden factory once, it was an unreal experience.

Intel makes silicon, not manufactured electronics. It's a semi-conductor company.

When I search Intel Jobs, I'm asked to narrow the location from a bunch of different countries around the world including many outside the US and EU.

When I select China I find factory-related jobs for locations in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Xian, and Chengdu.

Edit: That's not to imply anything about factory conditions in Intel plants. For all I know the workers love it there.

I think that the most advanced Intel fabs are all in the USA, and they are well ahead of the game. It's the only thing propping them up ATM.

And like you said, they can probably do that because of the scope of their production. It's mostly semiconductor products that then go into other products. Motherboards and SSDs are their most complicated products and much of their factory work is fully automated.

As for Foxconn, this isn't helping.

Meh, I think he's safe. I don't see this generation boycotting Foxconn products anytime soon
