The Attorney-General has the right of appeal by way of case stated to the appeal courts in certain circumstances. One of these is if he feels that the sentence passed was too lenient, or the trial judge has erred in his application of the sentencing guidelines or relevant case law and statute.
If what you say is true, this appears to be one of these cases.
Therefore, the trial judge's sentencing is not 'absolute' or 'final' in any sense.
