UNIFIL finds Hezbollah arms cache in S. Lebanon, forced away

Armed Hezbollah militants warded off members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) last month when the peacekeepers discovered a truck carrying weapons and ammunition belonging to the Lebanon-based guerilla group.

The incident was referred to briefly in a semi-yearly report submitted to the UN Security Council by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. The incident was the first time that UNIFIL forces were confronted by armed Hezbollah men south of Lebanon's Litani River, an area which Security Council resolution 1701 prohibits Hezbollah from entering.

According to a government source in Jerusalem, the incident caused great embarrassment for UNIFIL. The source described the incident, explaining that UNIFIL troops on patrol discovered the truck and chased it down and pulled it over. When the UNIFIL troops approached the vehicle, the source said, armed Hezbollah men exited the truck and threatened the troops at gunpoint. The UNIFIL patrol then went back into their cars, according to the source, and returned to their base.

The report submitted to the Security Council said the incident occurred on the night between the 30 and 31 of March. "This serious violation of the UN resolution raises concerns," the report said.

The incident was not reported in the media at the time of its occurrence.

I am sure this will boost Israel's confidence in letting the UN see through the implementation of future "truce" agreements with terrorists.

that's not the 1st time the UN has had to step down or be made look impotent. They had to stand aside as IDF tanks rolled through years back in one of the Lebanon incursions.

Don't remember the build up to it as it was about 10 years ago, maybe more, but that sounds about right.
My point wasn't that Israel does it too, it's that the UN is fairly toothless in these matters.
I only remember it as my bro-in-law had been working in that area for the UN (courtesy of the Irish armed forces) so it was close to home, so to speak.

At least Al Qeada hate Hezbollah though.

The madness of it all.

MIDDLE EAST: Al Qaeda speaks again

Al Qaeda struggles to show that it still has its fingers on the pulse of the world, even as it hides out in the rocky mountains along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The latest presumptive audio recording by Al Qaeda's No. 2 seems to suggest that the Islamist organization is striving to stay relevant.

In the extensive two-hour message posted on the Internet Tuesday, Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Zawahiri, particularly lashed out at the Iranians for their ambitions in Iraq and the Arab region, as well as their attempts to discredit the Sunni Islamist group.

He attacked the Iranians for allegedly seeking out the takeover of southern Iraq and Shiite parts of Saudi Arabia.

He warned that if Iran achieves its goals, it will "blow up the situation in an already exploding region."

In answers to hundreds of electronic queries made by Al Qaeda supporters, he tried to exploit the Sunni-Shiite rift in the Middle East. He accused Iran's ally in Lebanon, Hezbollah, of launching a propaganda campaign against the group.

According to the Al Qaeda official, Hezbollah's TV station Al-Manar has been propagating the conspiracy theory that Israel was behind the Sept. 11 attacks against the World Trade Center:

The purpose of this lie is clear. [It infers] that there are no heroes among the Sunnis who can hurt America... Iranian media picked up this lie and repeated it... Iran's aim here is also clear, that is to cover up its involvement with America in invading the homes of Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Zawahiri also lambasted the Palestinian militant group Hamas, another of Tehran's allies, for allegedly considering future peace treaties with Israel.

One New York-based analyst, Micah Halpern, commented on his website about the competition between Al Qaeda and Iran:

Al Qaeda and Iran hate one another. Zawahiri has spoken time and again about the intentions of Iran to hijack the Muslim agenda and take charge of the Muslim world… Through his audio preachings Zawahiri is promoting the good that Sunni al Qaeda brings to the Muslim word. It is al Qaeda, says Zawahiri, who is fighting against Western evil.

Lebanon featured prominently in Zawahiri's audiotape — the country was branded as a "Muslim frontline fort." The Al Qaeda official delivered a "bad omen" about Lebanon — as one Lebanese politician described his declarations — predicting a "pivotal role" for the country in future battles against Israel and the international peacekeeping troops stationed in the south of the country.

Zawahiri went even beyond his usual political issues by commenting on the deterioration of the world's environment. He blamed global warming on the "greediness" and "brutality" of the Western world with the U.S. on top, adding that this phenomenon "would make the world more sympathetic to and understanding of the Muslims' jihad against the aggressor America."

Is it perhaps possible that the people who actually vow to commit genocide are in fact the genocidal ones?

A bizarre concept, I know. If you could see through your hatred or ignorance, then you would actually realise that "we will wipe the Jews into the sea" is an avowed statement supporting genocide, as opposed to "we will respond to aggression, invasion, and indiscriminate bombings and attacks specifically designed to kill our civilians".

If Hamas and Hezbolah were France, and Israel was the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom would have long ago completely leveled France with no regard whatsoever for civilians and innocents. Whereas Israel actually tries only to kill those who wage a half-century old proxy war for the purpose of genocide, not the people caught up in the madness.

But I don't expect you to understand. The vast majority of Europeans take every word that the anti-semitic genocidal maniacs say as gospel truth and support them to the hilt while lying their tits off Goebels style.

Why? I'm not quite sure. Maybe it's the noses.

So you "respect" them for their avowed goal of killing as many I
