Virginia Tech remembered, one year on.
It was on this day April 16th last year that 32 people students and staff alike, lost their lives when a gunman went on the losse at Virginia Tech University.
Dozens mor injured in the tragedy. I'd like to bring to the attention of the Caf of a special documentary that the BBC World Service will be airing today called Elegy For The Tech A poet by the name of Fred D'Aguiar who works at Virginia Tech has wrote a poem, Elegy, as a commemoration. There will be other articles and features to mark the day i am srue, but most would not be aware of this specific one and it is something i thought i would post on here right from when i firt heard the trail for it. It will go out at the following times today [GMT]: 09:05 12:05 19:05 I'll also post the link to listen to it online as and when that becomes available. You know, it's a sign of the times and how small the world has become as cliche as that sounds, because somebody i know on another forum was a student at Virginia Tech last year, final year now i reckon. She was not direclty caught up in it but there were fears for some of her friends. It'll be a difficult day for all too many. |

![]() I have some friends who are at Virginia Tech right now, they lost some of their friends that day. And it's just so sad that something like this ever happened. Could have happened anywhere too, on any university campus, which is really terrifying .. R I P to all that have passed away, you'll never be forgotten. * Ross A. crikey, how times flies. hard to believe it's a year already. we're observing the anniversary here at work with a moment of silence at 10:30am EST.
As I mentioned last year we have a lot of grads in our office and we recruit new kids every year out of there. hopefully something like this will never happen again. |

I remember watching this unfold on the news. Absolutely unreal. A terrible thing to happen and something that will haunt a lot of people for the rest of their lives

I've seen my fair share of violence though, living in Beirut and all. |

Nobody will ever forget Virginia Tech, or Columbine. They will be mentioned the next time something similar happens.
And the time after that. And the time after that. And the time after that. But now that Charlton Hestons hands are cold and dead....theres actually a possibility that something can be done to POSSIBLY prevent the next time....but theres no American politician that brave. Meantime lets provisionally book a few thread spaces to talk about the next Virginia Tech. |
