vBookies
I've seen this on other forums and it seems quite good, was there ever any talk of putting it on this board?
vBookie is a 'bookmakers' or betting extension to vBulletin. It enables authorised members to post Events and Outcomes that forum members can bet on. Each Outcome has its own set of odds, and odds can be modified through the life of an Event |

I'll have a think about this though I suspect there would be problems with liquidity (not enough money being bet) and a skewed punter population (everyone wants to back ManU not Barca to win). Potentially it could undercut betfair commission and offer a modest income stream to the caf (Niall wakes up).

Any interest from the mods in doing this? It would be good if it could get started before the season starts.
By the way, there seems to be an impression that real money is bet, it's not, just vMoney or Points or whatever. I was a vBookie on another forum before it died, people liked it. |

The add-on basically does all the calculations itself and the admins only have to add the matches, the odds and then the results. But if I'm not mistaken, Niall has never been keen on installing add-ons, for a couple of reasons. It would be great though. |

Is this like playing poker with play money, but betting on sports? If so how is it a source of income for the cafe?

Could do. Even if the caf had to be licensed as a bookmaker. Basically the cafites would benefit from better odds (since many of them bet with conventional bookmakers despite my frequent advice NOT to do this) and the caf could hoover up the 5% betfair comm (less my 1% comm for getting it all going) |

I used to run a vBookies on another forum before. Had to be on the ball to set up the threads and get fair odds. Also the threads had a set layout, kind of like the matchday threads. It could be a real success here.

Nah, as long as the Bookie(s) post a thread for maybe every premiership match, or an event like Wimbledon, interest is maintained because people want to keep their totals up. With vOdds you can be a bit more generous than a real Bookie as well.
