Why Liverpool will be champions

I haven't posted here for a year, but have watched the balance of power switch dramatically (just as I predicted)..... I didn't write this, but I think it sums up "today" perfectly. For a decade, you lot were untouchable. But your time has been and gone..... here's why:

--------------------

Liverpool, the most succesful English club ever, sits happy tonight at the top of the Premiership. Whilst everyones attention turns slowly to Liverpoool, we've known all along our day will come. Here we present you with our brief, not so indepth(!) 8 reasons why Liverpool will be Premiership Champions this season (In no particular order):-

1 Michael Owen
There's no denying it, Michael Owen is a goalscorer. He can score at the most crucial times when things arent going to plan. An incredible asset to the team, and will no doubt finish the top Premiership goalscorer this season. Michael Owen has his socring boots on again, and this will help Liverpool fire their way to a firdt Premiership Championship win.

2 The defence
Our defence is the key to our recent successes of late. Hyypia, Henchoz and a whole collection of other solid, reliable, and dependable defenders that we have, have kept out some of the toughtest teams in Europe. A Championship winning side is a side who has a solid defence. We have that in abundance. They have been the best by far in the Premiership of the last couple or seasons or so, and our defence will keep out the toughtest of sides.

3 Gerard Houllier
Gerard Houllier has brought in his own tactical now-how. He's bought in quality players, and he has let some of the other players go. He's outted the moaners, and whingers at the club, and now has assembled a tight bunch of passionate players that are so glad that they have th privelage of wearing the red jersey. He's here for the long run. He said it would take time. And it has. But he's building a formidabble team, and no doubt his man manegement skills eminate through to the players. Controlled, focussed and never afraid to air his honest views, Houllier has finally brought back the spirit of the Liverpool of old.

4 United's days are over
All things must come to an end. And it looks as though Manchester United's mini 'dominace' of English football is in a rapid decline. Inability to score, and the inability to win are not good signs for United. Liverpool have crept behind them over the years, coming close on many occasions, but the Reds have been ready to take over the hotseat and now that United have faltered the Reds of Merseyside are the only Reds in town. Claiming the 6 points against United this year will help snatch back the trophy.

5 The fans
Liverpool has questionably the most passionate support for any football club in the world. Knowledgable, humourous, and patient. Passionate, vocal, and honest. These are some fo the attributes a typical Liverpool fan has. Talk to any Liverpool fan anywhere in the world and you'll immediately realise that supporting Liverpool is a religion. Whether it's at Anfield, away from home in the UK or far afield in Europe the fans always do their best to get the best out of the team. Constant support and acknowledgment that things are going well will filter through to the players, and their confidence will no doubt be bolstered with he support of the fans. Liverpool fans give the team an extra 10% over the opponents and will surely be singing "Champions" in May 2003.

6 Anfield
Anfield used to be known as Fortress Anfield. No opossing team ever escaped with all three points over the 70's and 80's. The reputation of the place gave Liverpool an almost 1 - 0 lead as opposing players, and travelling away fans dreaded playing at Anfield - they loved the occasion, but dreaded the footballing lesson they would be an unwanted student in. That was then. This is now. And slowly and surely Anfield is becoming a tough place to play now. And it's that invincibility that used to surrond the place that could help put the fear back into opposing teams. If we can go unbeaten at home all season, this will clearly put Anfield back on the footballing world map as the most feared stadium to play in.

7 Flexible, resilient tactics
Liverpool have changed the tactics to suit their preferred style of play this season. Gerard Houllier has said that he feels the team can defend properly now, and he has given them a license to attack as much as possible. However, Houllier uses his tactics cleverly in certain situations in games, and will no doubt tinker with them to get the desired result. This ability to have a team that can slot into different formations, roles and positions on the pitch are crucial for Liverpool to win games when things arent going right and a change is needed. Championship winning teams are flexible, and this Liverpool side clearly shows players are willing to forfeit their preferred position for the benefit of the team.

8 It's where it belongs
Liverpool last won their title over a decade ago. With a worldwide support with 10's of millions of fans a club this size needs the title. In the 60's, 70's and 80's Liverpool coolected title after title. Anfield has seen the title more times than any other club, and its about time to bring it back home. It may have a new name, and may look slightly differenet, but everyone knows deep down that the true home of football in the UK is that of Liverpool. Is where dreams have been made. It's where dreams are still being made. And it's where the Premiership Championship dream will be made. Come May 2003 we're convinced the Premiership trophy will be sat glittering in arguably the most packed trophy rooms in the world.

If your only going to come in here and gloat when things are going well you might as well stay away.

Murt.

you seriously are a tosser with your views. "it's really good that we're 8 points behind Liverppol costhe pressure is in them" is probably the worst piece of single-blindedness I've ever seen.

I could have come here and "gloated" any time in the last 18 months....... we're 8 POINTS clear, and finished ahead of you last year! To be honest, the only reason I bothered is cos I got drunk at a party last night with me mate ukbob (manc fan) and decided to mouth off while still under the influence.

Here's my point... Man U are crap now and are in the same decline Licerpool were in 1992.... and it's a LONG, LONG way back

3 Gerard Houllier (WON PLASTIC TREBLE)

I said the same last season when youse were 11 points ahead with yer game in hand and look what happened <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />
I still find it ironic that you disappear as soon as we clawed you back and now youse get into a lead your back. Where were you when youse lost to Valencia & Leverkusen and drew with Basle?
Are you still under the influence after last night?

Were 4 points behind Arsenal who are "the best team ever" so we cant be that bad.
Were strolling thorugh Europe.
Pool & Arsenal have had slightly better starts than us and weve been the worst ht by injuries with Keane, Ruud, Rio, Scholes, Butt and Neville all out.
Its October and your allready celebrating your title, did youse not learn from last season when youse were gloating in November <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> . You lot have no idea how to win a league, youse remind me of us the yr Leeds beat us.

Liverpool, the most succesful English club ever... who haven't won anything of note for over a decade

1 Michael Owen
There's no denying it, Michael Owen is a goalscorer. [b] and Henry or Van Nistelrooy are not??

2 The defence
Hyypia, Henchoz and a whole collection of other solid, reliable, and dependable defenders [b] you mean the likes of xavier and traore?? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

We have the best defensive record in the league.

Beckham, Butt and Scholes are approaching their peak. Giggs is older but only 28. Keano is 31 but should be good for at least two more seasons.

Last year I met one of your loony friends. You were 11 points ahead of us (with a game in hand). he said you had the league sewn up.

Yes, you won both your Cup finals (the games against us) and your championship (ie finished ahead of us) but still got no trophies. I don't know if you realise there are 18 other clubs in the premiership and Arsenal finished top.

Now fuck off and save your energy. You might need it in April and May to stop your choking.

well let's all be thankful that the world class Nicky Butt is approaching his peak.... so what exactly is that? He's CRAP! Officially!!!

Keane is OLD news, Beckham is a great right half but (un)fortunately you think he's better roaming around, Veron is truly 100% shite, as is Forlan,

You know it.....

goodye United, you were the 90's

ps Scholes is excellent. The only truly world class player at OT.

and Diego Forlan (1 in 35)

A midfield that has Veron in it, and he is truly, really, honestly, pathetic.... you only play him cos of his price tag!!!!

A defence that's only "the best in England" cos your attack is "one of the worst in England" It goes hand in hand. Having a good defence is only relevant if you actually score goals!

3rd last season. Not a trophy in sight, and eating Liverpool's dust at the moment, with 13 goals in 11 games, and a total of 19 points from 11 games. Remind me please.... when was the last time you had such a pathetic points total after 11 games?

Keane is OLD news, Beckham is a great right half but (un)fortunately you think he's better roaming around, Veron is truly 100% shite, as is Forlan,

You know it.....

goodye United, you were the 90's

ps Scholes is excellent. The only truly world class player at OT.</strong><hr></blockquote>

and the whole Liverpool team who have won nothing of substance are world class?

With Owen who keeps getting himself injured you say he's the reason for you to win it all? I wouldn't be surprised if Owen fell on his head and knocked himself out cold while trying to score a penalty for Liverpool...

did you know that he has missed the most penalties since 1997/98 season? You call that world class? can't even fuckin fool a keeper with a dead ball. what's he going to do for you?

I do not disagree that Poo of the 70's and 80's were world class and that they have had their time.. but for you to babble about being champions in October is just crazy... absolute bollox.

The reason you scoushit haven't won anythin in the past ten years is because you never learn from being over confident too early. Last year was the same, as it has been the case for 10 years.

Even Houllier has joined the club, he came out to the press and said he felt his team has a chance this year because of the way they're performing... anything can happen my friend.. look at arsenal? what good is it doing them now having scored in every game for the past 50? Losing 3 games in one off week already allowed suckers like you to go top. And you think that if you go one or two off week, our team cannot overtake you?

You think football is played and is over in 3 months? You must be joking.

You have players like Steven Gerard who come out to say "i'm scared shit of Viera" and players like Riise, Hyypia, Dudek, Diouf, so MANY MORE who've never even come close to the big trophies.. you think they can stand the pressure comes crunch times? You need experience for that stuff - the scoushit as a team have never even come close to winning it. Last year you guys led the league and then what happened? you went how many games without a win? becaue none of you know how to be at the top. We have a midfield from '97 that's why we're strong. You think it takes new faces every year to win? What it does is give you more problem trying to gel them as a team. Sure they're performing, but it's early days, they're all trying to impress. Wait and see when they tumble like bowling pins.. it won't be long..

It's easy getting to the top, it's tough keeping the number 1 spot. Oh yes, the pressure is on you sucker. You have 5 teams breathing on your necks, I'll see what you're going to do about it. I give you two more month tops. You'll be history by new year.
