The U18's and the U16's both entertained Newcastle on Saturday.

The U18's lost 4-1 and the U16's won 3-2

Ex-Man Utd kid Pugh a hit at Leeds
tribalfootball.com - September 6, 2004

Former Manchester United fullback Danny Pugh is impressing at Leeds.
The youngster moved to Elland Road as part of Alan Smith's transfer and Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell hailed: "I'm very pleased with the way Danny has settled into life here.

"He reads the game well and has a great engine. We've seen plenty of commitment from him - he's not shirked a challenge since he's been here.

"I think the fans will adore him here because he will put everything in when it matters."

good luck to him

I believe he's playing in midfield over there.

Danny has scored a few goals and the Leeds fans have taken to him. Seems to have found his level in the same way Danny Webber has. Pleased for them.

Lee Martin....

Is he any good? And the inevitable question...Will he make it? I've heard he needs bulking up, just like everyone else in our youth setup it seems.

Young 17 year old winger. Looks very promising. He does need to bulk up but so do most players his age. One of the more skillful players in our academy, ie stepovers and that type of thing. Still too early to tell whether he could make it but he does look like a very good talent.

this is an outragous comparison, but what i'm saying he has a similar style to the player i am going to compare to.

to me he reminds me of a zidane. now i'm not saying he will become to be a good player as zidane, though i don't know how good zizou was at martins age.

he is tall player, like zidane. does his step overs like him, not like CR7. martin has the skill to beat a player like zidane, has the driving force as zidane.

when he signed he was touted as being beckham, scholes, keane all rolled in one. now if that were true who would you say had all that?...well zidane of course......well i do.

Are we sure we signed Wayne Rooney?
Saw the goals from the Academy U18's game against Newcastle and the lad who scored a hatrick for the Geordies - Mark Walton?- was the absolute spit of our new No 8. Same build and squashed Shrek face but more importantly he plays exactly the same way. Uses his strength very well, good footwork and a cracking shot.
The resemblance is uncanny.
Fergie was watching the game - to see Rossi and Pique no doubt but I'm sure the opposition's Rooney lookalike didn't escape the manager's attention. A gentle tapping-up wouldn't do any harm surely?

I urge you to check out the footage if you haven't yet seen it. The similarity with Rooney will blow you away!

I wouldn't say Zidane has Keane's defensive ability but he can have the same influence over a match. Speaking of which, how is Martin defensively?

He is a winger, I dont know what defensive ability you would expect from a winger.

The ability to track back and keep a two banks of four shape when we aren't on the ball, to be able to fill in for the full back if the defense gets dragged over to one side, to decide when to press their full back and when to hold position etc etc. Not much really, all they have to do is to be in the right place at the right time and work hard. That's the easy bit, it's the beating players and putting in quality service, chipping in with goals etc that doesn't come so easy to most players and hopefully he'll be good at that.

Hopefully he'll come good at United but I haven't really seen enough to be as sure as I am that Rossi will come good. Still, looks a promising talent.

If he was so highly touted, why did he only cost 200,000?

actually 200 000£ compensation for a 16 year old is pretty extreme. Both arsenal and chelsea wanted him but he choose us....after we promised to pay for his familys relocation.

Martin signs for United
MANCHESTER United have completed a £1million swoop for Wimbledon youngster Lee Martin.

United have paid an initial £200,000 for the 16-year-old midfielder, who was also being courted by Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, but with further payments due if he makes the progress anticipated.

Martin was spotted by Sir Alex Ferguson playing for the Dons' under-17 and under-19 sides and will hope the teenager has similar success to Lee Sharpe, whom he picked up in similar fashion from Torquay over a decade ago and went on to become an England international.

The comments regarding Lee Martin being Keane, Scholes (I thought it was Giggs) and Becks all roled into one are a little mis-interpreted too. There was an article in one of the broadsheets (I can't remember all the details.) where the scout who spotted him originally was saying that he thought he was a cross between all of those as the best way to describe him as a player. He didn't say that he was as good as all of them rolled into one because no one is. He did say he has enormous potential though.

ANTWERP TRIO TIPPED FOR UNITED
by Graeme Bailey - Last Updated 9 Sep 2004

Team Pages:
Manchester United

Manchester United careers are being predicted for The Red Devils youngsters currently attached to Royal Antwerp.

The Old Trafford giants do not currently have any of their own home-grown products with Antwerp.

Eddie Johnson and Phil Bardsley were the most recent to spend time at The Bosuilstadion - and they both look to have benefited from their stint, as did the likes of John O'Shea, Luke Chadwick and Danny Higginbotham before them.

However, United do still have a strong presence at Antwerp as arguably three of their most promising assets are with them in the shape of Dong Fangzhuo, Souleymane Mamam and Arthur Gomez.

The Chinese, Togo and Gambia starlets are only at Antwerp as United are not allowed to have them in their own youth setup in England because of work-permit regulations - but they are keeping very close tabs on the trio.

Coaches Jim Ryan and Ricky Sbragia travelled to Belgium earlier this summer and Brian McClair travelled over just two weeks ago.

"Brian was with us two weeks ago to check on the guys," Antwerp's general secretary Paul Bistiaux told skysports.com.

"I know United are very happy with the progress that is being made by the players.

"I think particularly the way Dong and Souleymane are progressing is very pleasing.

"Arthur has had a lot of injuries, but is still doing well.

"The way it is looking at the moment all could make it Old Trafford, and both Dong and Souleymane could be with them within two years."

The news of Qatar starlet Hussain Yasser Abdulrahman is not as good - as he has now left Antwerp and United.

"He had personal problems, although he was doing well," added Bistiaux.

"United agreed to let him leave and I believe he is now back in Qatar."

Abdulrahman had even been linked with one of United's other partners - Sporting Lisbon - as he impressed in the Jupiler League, but he has now decided against continuing his career in Europe.
