Got to see the goals from the West Brom game just now - some decent strikes.
We all know what has been said about Fletcher and Richardson, but what about David Jones? Heard some good things about him and he looks quite talented. From what I have heard, Fletcher seems a definate in the future with about ten maybes on the list. Richardson, Timm, Eagles, Jones, E Johnson, Neumayr, Nardiello and Steele - which of these players, if brutal with selection, will make it? |

Weekend action-manutd.com
United’s academy sides were on form at the weekend as the Under 17’s ran out 4-0 winners at home to Wolves, and the Under 19’s snatched a 2-1 victory away to Huddersfield. Eddie Johnson and Sylvan Blake were on target for Brian McClair’s Under 19 team. And having gone in at half-time 1-0 up, Francisco Filho’s Under 17 side scored three in 23 second-half minutes to*secure a convincing home win over Wolves. Fraizer Campbell gave United the lead on 26 minutes, and then a*flurry of second half strikes, two from Aaron Burns and one from substitute Sam Hewson, gave*the Reds*youngsters the points. Teams: U17's: Crockett, Beckett, Lee, Lea, Ngalula (Simpson 79), Rose (Hewson 70), Marsh, Jones R, Campbell, Burns, Booth (Mullen 70). Sub not used: Shawcross. U19's: Heaton, Bardsley, McShane, Sims, Howard, Eckersley, Picken, Port, Neumayr, Ebanks-Blake, Johnson, Calliste. Subs not used: Poole, Flanagan, Eagles. |

Man Utd Res 3 - Blues Res 1
Article by Brian Cartlidge Updated 2 October 2003 An experienced Blues reserves side went down 3-1 to Man Utd Reserves on Thursday night. Keith Bertschins side, which included many players with first team experience, got off to the perfect start in the game at Moss Lane when Argentinian striker Luciano Figueroa gave them a 26 minute lead. A good low cross from the left by Clinton Morrison was met at the near post by Figueroa, who calmly poked it into the net from 3 yards out. Blues however, seemed to settle on their slender lead and United came back strongly. Their endeavour finally paid rewards 5 minutes before the break when young midfielder Davey Jones equalised with the goal of the game. Picking the ball up 25 yards out in a central position he sailed into the box beating Carter, Tebilly and Kenna on his way and hit a sweet shot past the helpless Bagnall in the Blues goal to send the sides in at the break all level Blues started the second half brightly but an unfortunate handball by Painter, the ball appearing to roll up his arm after he miscontrolled it, resulted in a penalty to United. Nardiaello made no mistake from the resulting spot-kick to give United a 2-1 lead. Within minutes of the restart Blues came close to grabbing an equaliser on two occasions. Firstly Kirovski's corner was headed just over the bar by Tebily and then an absolutely brilliant volley form 25 yards out from Darren Carter struck the United crossbar. United wrapped the game up on 75 minutes when Nardiello scored his second and the Reds third. A long angled ball over the top of the Blues defence was met on the left by the United striker who eased his way past Kenna into the box and fired home an angled left foot shot past Bagnall. This took the stuffing out of the Blues side and apart from a snap shot from Figueroa three minutes from time they never looked like clawing their way back into the game. One bright note from the game was that Blues defender Martin Grainger lasted 66 minutes in his comeback from a long term knee injury before being replaced by Andrew Barrowman. Man Utd: Heaton; Lynch, Tierney, McShane, Tate; Jones, Eagles, Pugh, Timm; Nardiello, Johnson. Subs: Steele (GK), M Williams, Poole, Eckersley, Byrne. Blues: Bagnall, Kenna, Grainger, Carter, Painter, Tebily, Morrison, Kirovski, Figueroa, John. Motteram Subs: Legzdins, Hall, Hinks, Barrowman, Shepperd. Another 2 goals from Nardiello , it seems like he is scoring every game! Does he deserve a chance in the first team?? maybe the leage cup? |

Just wanted to add some further comments on last nights reserve match.
I thought Tom Heaton in goal was bloody excellent. Especially when you consider he's just 17 and was making his debut for the reserves. He was very quick off his line on more than one occasion and stopped certain goals in the process. The two carrot topped centre backs were also impressive. McShane(?) I think is 17 and was also making his debut for the reserves. He is strong beyond his years and did a great job marking Stern John out of the game. I really think we have a decent bunch of young players coming through again. I think perhaps 5 or 6 of them have the ability to become first team players. Jones was great again as mentioned by another poster. Eagles showed good movement and ability on the ball and also hit a ferocious free-kick just wide unluckily. Nardiello took his penalty and his other goal extremely well. I've always hoped we can produce a real quality striker through the ranks. I'm not sure if he will be it, but he knows where the goal is, and deserves at least the Carling cup game to show what he can do. Eddie Johnson was back, and was his usual hard working self. Really like this kid for his sheer determination, though perhaps it wasn't his best match last night. |

It was strange seeing Johnson play in Midfield though. I would have prefered seeing Timm drop back and play Johnson further up field. With regards Nardiello, he scores his goals I'll give him that, but he will NEVER made it to a first team regular spot. Too slow and weak. He will go down the same route and Healy and Notman IMO. |

Anybody know why Steele was dropped to bench? Is he injured, or did they just want to try Heaton out?
Also any news on Timm's injury? When is he going to be given a 1st team chance anyway? I thought he looked class again last night before he came off... |

I have not seen Burns or Moran play. I keep missing the academy when its on MUTV. One of the players I think could be one to watch it Frazier Campbell. Scored lots of goals and is an england youth international.
As for Mads Timm's injury, I don't think it was too serious. Just a slight ankle injury. As to when we can see him in the first team squad, I think it will still be a while yet. He needs to add more consistancy to his game first. He will do well to get a season in the reserves under his belt, then perhaps a loan period elsewhere. He might get a subs appearance in the Carling Cup or a CL fixture if the last game is meaningless. |

Got this in my email...
--------------------------------------------- MCSHANE DEBUTS FOR RESERVES DUBLIN Irish underage International defender Paul McShane made his Manchester United reserve team debut on Thursday evening in a 3-1 win over Birmingham city side that included "eight" first team players – two of them being Irish Internationals Clinton Morrison and Jeff Kenna. McShane had a job to do on Thursday evening, that of the man marking of Trinidad & Tobago International and Birmingham City striker Stern John! In his post match Interview, Paul was asked how his debut went, and what it was like to have the job of marking the 26-year-old Blues striker. "I thought it {debut} went ok, Paul said "They've {Birmingham} got quality player's and there was a load of Internationals on show tonight. He {Stern John} was a tough fella. He's got loads of ability, but then again their whole side has". McShane progressed from United's U17 side to their youth side last season – the latter of the two being a combination of the U17's and U19's. Let's not forget that Paul will not turn 18 years of age until January next year. And the Wicklow native now looks set to make the permanent switch up to reserve team football at United judging from his performance, and by the comment's from Mutv commentator Steve Bowyer and former Celtic and Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand. "We're going to hear, and see a lot more from Paul McShane, I'm sure", Crerand said Paul took his Irish U19 International bow on September 20th this year, when Sean McCaffrey's side ran out 10-1 winner's over San Marino, breaking the Irish international record for the number of goals scored in a single match. United's next reserve game is on October 7th away to Everton and McShane will look certain to partner United youth team player Alan Tait in the centre of defence again. From all your friends at soccercentral.ie Paul, good luck with the rest of the season! |

Great to hear McShane is doing so well.
Another centre back that hopefully makes it, is Spector who joined United recently, off the US U17 team. But it doesn't sound like he's playing yet. He looks a good, tough defender and the US U20 coach is already looking at bringing him into that team(along with Adu). |
