I don't have MUTV (or Sky) any more since I moved house, therefore i have not seen any action from the youth teams in a while.

However, I still maintain the only players I have seen who have a chance are Steele, McShane, David Jones, Timm, Richardson and Blake. i have not seen Martin or N'Ghala play so cannot comment on them.

Hard to disagree with MPTUtd.

I'm rooting for the forgotten foreigners, Gomez, Maman, Hussain and Dong.

Great effort Jacuzzi.

United Reserves Into Final (link)

United's reserves are into the Manchester Senior Cup final, thanks to a 1-0 win against Bury at Moss Lane. David Bellion scored the only goal of the game, clipping home the winner after 23 minutes following good work by David Fox and Colin Heath. United's lead was shaky at times, and they relied heavily on a strong performance from goalkeeper James Jowsey. The Reds will find out who they are facing in the final after the final group game between Bury and Manchester City.

News in brief...

Substitute Arthur Gomez scored once in Antwerp“s home win over Charleroi on saturday. Hussaine and Mamam were unused subs, while Bardsley (ban) and Johnson (injured) didn“t participate at all. No Dong either. Hopefully this result sees them off to a good run as they“re in danger of getting relegated. (match report in belgian/dutch)

-----

Elsewhere our U19“s drew 1-1 against Stoke at home and U17“s drew 3-3 against scousers. (U17“s match report from scouse point of view...)

-----

This thread has been viewed several hundreds of times over the last few days. Yet it seems that no-one else is about reveal ones views on our future stars; I thought there were some real youth experts out there. I“m a bit gutted, as I was hoping those posts of mine (re: My Views On Our Gems - see page 7) would have been a start of something of some significance.
Oh well, maybe there is no further information of any value on this subject after all. But, NO hard feelings though. Will do my best, along with others, to keep this thread up there with the best. I may, for example, keep those views of mine updated if needed during the next few months. So keep an eye on it!

Unfortuneately JAcuzzi, Neil Thompson and MPTutd, our two youth team experts can't give us any more reports and so forth anymore, for various reasons.

Thompson's away while MPTutd has explained himself above

I had mutv and watched it most of the time and basically agree with most of your post.

If id go over the players i think have the best chance its

gk

heaton and steele. From what i have seen heaton has impressed me more but then steele is rated highly and cost alot of money

defense

Bardsley, mcshane and then there are spector, ngalula and the brazilian who i havent seen alot of

midfield

jones, eagles, kieran, timm, martin and i havent seen neumayr or the antwerp guys.

strikers

johnson, cooper, blake, frazer campbell (imo is more like bellion than blake) and again i dont know much about dong or the antwerp lads but brandy was great in that tournament in barcelona a few years ago

United's Youth Side Progress - Manchester United 4-2 Norwich City

17/2/04 7:43 PM

United have advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup after coming from behind to beat Norwich City 4-2 at Old Trafford.

The cup holders spurned a great chance to take the lead after ten minutes when Paul Mcshane headed over from Adam Eckersley's pinpoint free kick.

United were left to rue that missed opportunity five minutes later, when a Norwich break left the visitors with two attackers against Mark Howard. Nicky Howell left the defender for dead before rounding goalkeeper Tom Heaton and sliding the ball into the empty net.

Norwich continued to apply pressure, and they almost extended their lead twice in three minutes, with Heaton saving well from Blackburn's long-range effort before Danny Crow's shot deflected just over the bar off Jonathan Spector.

Chris Eagles, who impressed throughout, was booked for a reckless high challenge on Norwich's Adam Smith after forty minutes.

United finally drew level three minutes before half time, albeit in fortuitous circumstances. Phil Picken's curling cross sailed over the head of Ebanks-Blake, but Norwich defender Matthew Halliday buried the header past his own goalkeeper.

Five minutes after half-time, United had their noses in front through a fine goal by Mark Howard. Phil Picken curled a free-kick into the Norwich box from thirty yards out, and Howard rose well to steer a header into the top corner.

Tom Heaton in the United goal was finally called into after 65 minutes, making a fine double block from Crow and Howell as the visitors looked to claw themselves back into the tie.

Norwich almost drew level 12 minutes from time as Lee Blackburn's 20-yard drive flew fractionally wide of Heaton's post.

United put the game to bed almost immediately afterwards as captain McShane headed in a Chris Eagles free-kick.

The scoreline took on a flattering look with five minutes to go as the lively Calliste won and then converted a penalty, and Ebanks-Blake was denied a deserved goal by a decent block from Lewis.

Adam Smith hit a 20 yard screamer to spare some of the Canaries' blushes in injury time.

Despite a poor start and a couple of subsequent scares, United deserved to progress to the next stage. Martin, Jones and Eagles gave superb all-round performances, while the crowd were excited by Ramon Calliste's twenty minute contribution.

The Reds will be away to either Blackburn or Gillingham in the next round.

Report by Steve Bartram.

Whatever happened to Daniel Rowe ? We signed him from Preston at age 12 a few years ago for 150,000..at the same time as the Brandy stories were coming out. We had apparently been tracking Rowe since he was 6. I think that he and Brandy are roughly the same age.

Oh well this was about the only good news yesterday

Report from MEN

Wolves 3 Utd 4 (Utd scorers in bold -- finally a Utd team's beaten Wolves away)

UNITED: Heaton, Picken, Lawrence, Howard, Lynch, Jones, Eagles, Solskjaer, Cooper, Heath, Williams M..

Subs not used: Timm, Lee, Hogg, Collett, Eckersley.

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer came through his first full game since returning from a serious knee injury as United reserves stormed to their first away win since November at Molineux last night.

The Norwegian international looked comfortable in the young Reds' side that was forced to come from behind after Leon Clarke had given Wolves a 3rd minute lead.

Matty Williams put United on terms in the 9th minute and blasted his side in front just after the break with a shot that deflected into the net off teammate Kenny Cooper .

Clarke equalised for the home side, but Chris Eagles restored United's lead when his cross from out on the left wing deceived the Wolves defence.

Colin Heath crowned a fine evening with a spectacular 25-yard right foot drive high into the roof of the Wolves net.

Joey Gudjonsson completed the scoring with a well taken free-kick six minutes from time.

Latest update on Abdulrahman Hussain (or Yassa or Yasser or Hussaine or....) at Antwerp, from Belgian website http://www.rafc-zone.be/Nieuws.htm. The article reads:

(Bron: Belgiumsoccer)

I ran it through a free translation website, and while it makes for weird reading, you get the point of the article (below). Looks like for all the early good word on Hussain being one of Antwerp's best players (admittedly not too hard when the team is at the bottom of the league), he doesn't appear to be Man Utd quality.

Grosjean want to set Hussain from team

The future of Hussain by Antwerp do not sees there really rosily more out. The player of Manchester United is not returned still after an interland with Qatar from last week.

By Antwerp, one is the attitude of Hussain thoroughly tired. Trainer Marc majority jean says even that he Hussain no longer can use. On that on which Manchester United for the winter stopper yet specifically asked Hussain to put, will the English club also well her conclusions pulled have.

Hussain has not been succeeded about it in Man United to convince of its qualities during its Antwerp-stay.

Arthur Gomez doesn't even seem to make the bench nowadays at Antwerp, so it's left to Dong and Mamam from the non-UK contingent to prove they can graduate to Manchester.

Manchester United's young Qatar international Hussain Yasser Abdulrahman has been loaned out to Sporting Lisbon, according to reports emanating from the Belgian media.
Hussain has spent time on loan at Antwerp, the Belgian side that has a feeder club arrangement with the Premiership giants.

However, it appears that the teenager will now gain experience in Portugal, after benefiting from his time in Belgium.

The 19-year-old midfielder was signed from the Rayan Sports Club of Qatar, after being scouted by The Red Devils for several years.

Manchester United are desperate to land the cream of the globe's best young players and view Hussain as someone who could make the grade.

Sir Alex Ferguson may well be hoping that time in another league, and at a major club, will speed up the youngster's progress.

That seems to conflict with deltakayes report.
I would have thought being sent to Sporting was a promotion, and a sign that he was highly rated.

From the official site:--

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been omitted from the Reserve side to face Manchester City's second string.

The Reds take on their local rivals at Altrincham's Moss Lane tonight (Thursday), and Solskjaer's absence adds credence to rumours that the Norwegian will start Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham.

United will line-up as follows: James Jowsey, Mark Lynch, Lee Lawrence, Paul Tierney, Danny Pugh, David Fox, Colin Heath, David Jones, Kenny Cooper, Matty Williams, Kieran Richardson. Substitutes: David Poole, Tommy Lee, Mads Timm, Ben Collett.

Kick-off is at 7pm, and entrance is free for Season Ticket Holders and LMTB Holders. Otherwise entrance costs £2 for adults and £1 for juniors and OAPS.

Ole is fine. The fact that he didn't play tonight almost certainly means he'll be in action on Saturday in the cup match. I think he'll start.

Don't forget, no Saha.

ESPN's soccernet did profiles on both Cooper and Spector as a part of as series of Americans in England. Pretty interesting to hear it from their point of view.

United have crashed out of the FA Youth Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Brian McClair's side, who won the trophy last season, rarely reached their usual high standards and were deservedly beaten by a hard-working Rovers side.

The Reds fell behind to a 16th minute penalty from Joel Byrom and their fate was sealed by Keith Barker's header seven minutes from time.

That's because your reserve team, like most others, is made up of recovering
