Dwayne does your 80 gig have backwards compatablility? I have a 60 gig one but it wont play ff7 8 or 9. Do I have to download some sort of update for the backwards compatability or summit?

All are somewhat backwards compatible apart from the 40GB Smashed, and when did you buy a PS3?

Shall I get you the compatibility list?

I only kept one PS2 game, Smashed, but it does play (Star Wars Battlefront II). As far as I know the backwards compatibility is already in the software somewhere so there is nothing you have to download. Though I heard that system update 1.5 had some fixes in it. I know I'm way ahead of that update.

From what I know, most games will play but some will not. I think you can find out more at http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

thre's probably one for Europe, too.

Also found this site:

http://www.ps3comp.com/view.asp

but it seems difficult to decipher as I could not see a legend.

just over a week ago. Wanted it for the FF's mainly and MGS when itcomes out. Pretty gutted that the original FF's don't play, but yeah the list would be great

The US and Euro lists are very different, probably because there are no machines still sold in EU that are. Says for FW 1.80.

Dwayne has posted the US version.

Cheers guys. Well apparently FF8 and 9 play, but I tried 8 and it definitely didn't.

No, I assumed that was just for ps2 games? Why would it only work on some discs anyway? Starting to think I should have just gone for a 40gb

Because I suppose that certain discs have different builds of the software Smashed? Considering that your 60GB is actually emulating a PS2 rather than having a PS2 embedded in the box, certain software builds may go wonky.

Fair enough that makes sense. Where does it tell you what product codes aren't going to work though? Can't seem to find it on that site

Left hand column on the Euro site? With the game on the US site (use 80GB search there, the US 60GB is hardware compatible).

I got a 60GB PS3 on launch day but upgraded to 250GB. That's what you should do.

I have a 60gb and FF7 and FF8 play perfectly well on mine

Seriously though, SCEE should start treating us Europeans a bit more better, we get sod all compared to Japan and America. Have you seen the pathetic MGS4 bundle they have released? A standard 40GB console, not even a dualshock is included, and it retails for £350!
