Played a solid 2hrs of the beta tonight (PC).
Quite simply the best shooter I've played. Once they've iron'd out the last few bugs in beta release will be epic. |

The game has been hyped up a hell of a lot and I played it and it didn't seem all that 'fun' at all. Think the most rewarding thing in the beta was getting a collateral with a sniper rifle, apart from that, it was just really boring. Slow paced game with huge maps of people just camping and waiting to creep up on you, or lying prone somewhere underground. The only thing I actually like in the game is sniping.

Isn't there a limit on consoles to so many people per team like their is on COD and Battlefield bad company or say 6/12 per team? On PC there is meant to be loads which is better for the bigger maps. I'm going PC on this one.
Not played the new one but on BFBC2 they maps did feel too big for the amount of people per team but still a great game. |

Have to say I'm not a fan of the Metro map the use in the Beta. It's grown on me a bit, but there's still something about it that just doesn't feel quite right. I think it's probably too linear and each stage is too small with the M-Com Stations too close together.
The video from those who got to play Caspian Border was much more like what I was hoping for. Huge, open map with shitloads of vehicles. That's more like it. Hopefully the other maps are closer to it than Metro. I'm a PS3 veteran and got the 48 hours early access on there, and did fairly well. Was always up amongst the best in the lobby. But now I'm playing a FPS on PC for the first time and I'm finding it quite hard to get used to the controls. Gotta get it under control though as that's what I'm going to pre-order. |

Have played the beta.
It's more or less the best thing ever. Unfortunately I didn't get into a Caspian server before they were shut down, but still I think it's amazing. |

Contemplating it, still not fully convinced. At best I'll probably be addicted at first then life will take over anyway. Are you in the beta though? I wanna see what it's like to play as a proper squad in the beta first, that could swing it for me.

QUAKE LIVE Me but need a graphics card first and possibly to upgrade my recently bought 'stopgap' AMD x2 3ghz to a hex core or at least quad. Motherboard is good for lots of upgrades as built it not too long back. Might be able to get away with an Nvidia + another 2gb of ram, got plenty of spare slots. |

I'll play with you guys but I'm already part of a clan (which you are all more than welcome to join).
I've been playing the beta more today (I was initially holding out until I'd finished uni for the year/the final game was released/I get my new computer - which were all meant to happen concurrently) but I was weak. Getting a bit bored of Operation Metro. Managed to get into a conquest server for it and it was fairly poor to be honest. I want Caspian Border. |

I play BF2 on the pc with a community clan type website. Most of the die hards are playing BF3 beta on it right now on the pc. As soon as BF3 comes out then i'll by that on the pc. I just cant play on ps3's and Xboxs. I need a keyboard and mouse to do first person shooter games

I wish I still had a PC to be able to play this in it's full glory. Unfortunately stuck with the PS3 version for now.
Still great on the PS3 although lack of numbers is a disappointment, I'm not even sure why in the modern era of gaming that consoles have to suffer with lower player counts still. The two major problems i have is. a) The lack of commander, or even squad commander screen. This is what made Battlefield and Battlefield 2 stand out from the crowd. It was brilliant when you had whole teams working together, a commander giving out way points and objects, squad leaders requesting UAV or Artillery support. Now they have taken it out, it's just a bunch of squads running around spawning on each other. b) The glare when sniping. I know snipers can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but again it's a whole tactical side of the game. Instead if your a sniper, you've got the misfortune of having a big shining light give away your position. Probably a consequence of the lack of commander screen. In Battlefield 2, had a problem with snipers? Just mark there position with way points or just request artillery or someone in a helicopter to bomb the fuck out of them. |

It's not as good as the system they created for P4F or Heroes but that would be too unrealistic for the main series. Put it this way. If a sniper sets up camp in a good position then they can go on a big killing spree. Being noticed by the enemy doesn't scare them because they can pick them off at range before they get close or focussed and that's not fair. Also, with the number of semi-auto sniper rifles in games these days, snipers don't even have to worry about lining up their shots anymore. In BF2 it took 3 SVD bodyshots to get a kill. In BF3 it takes 2 -- and that's without taking into account the clip size which has been increased. It strikes me as unfair that someone only needs two shots to kill someone over distance when they get to see those people first. To add to that, even if they waste a shot getting their aim in, it'll take them three shots to get the kill which could take under a second. I know snipers say that this is because they have no short-range ability but that's a lie. The rookie trick of marking the centre of your monitor to get a reticule while unscoped is well-known and used by "pros". The quick-scoping phenomenon that got developed in CoD also puts paid to the short-range phallacy. Long story short, snipers are too accurate when fired from the hip so a skilled player has a decent chance at short-range as well now. Just in case it's looking like the opposite, I actually like playing as a sniper. I'm not one of those people that hates on them because they're a good class, different even. I'm just pointing out that unless game makers do something to reveal a sniper's position before or after a shot in a noticeable way, snipers are an extremely OP class. That's a general case btw, not an exclusive BF problem. ...I appear to have spent a lot longer than I was hoping for in replying. |

I did that about 10 years ago on MOH:AA, bit of blue tack in the centre of the screen, unscoped accuracy.
