Blu-ray Thread

Here we can talk about all things Blu, such as the latest releases, the last blu-ray you watched, your own reviews etc...

I still have so many blu-ray's in their seal, I haven't had the time to watch them...

Personally I can't wait for Batman Begins on Blu ! But also the Matrix and LOTR Trilogy !

Great website for Blu-ray reviews - www.blu-ray.com

I recently bought Blade runner on Blu ray. All i can say is WOW!

The film is over 20 years old but the picture quality is exceptional.

I have been really impressed with the PS3 Blu Ray player.

Can anyone really tell the difference between HD-DVD and Blu-ray though ?

I mean as in picture quality-wise?

Of course you can, under the correct viewing conditions and a well coded film. It is not only the video quality however, it's also the sound quality.

I hope you picked up the US version (5 disc) and not the European one (2 disc) !

Just the PS3 mate. I might get one in the future but the PS3 is doing a fine job right now.

Am i right in thinking that the PS3's not region locked for Blu rays?

It is region locked for Blu-ray, but many discs don't use it. You have to make sure that you check first. I expect that Blu-ray is the same, but the region locking of DVDs on the PS3 is in the XMB software, it's not in the hardware - people report to have played DVDs from outside of their region on the PS3 under Linux.

Seems like it possible to play ripped Blu Ray movies now on ps3 by burning a image file on a dvd5. Sure it's not like a full 50gb Blu Ray but should be better than normal DVD.

Yes, the quality will not be the same, but for some movies you will get DVD quality or slightly better, or lots of discs. There is always the HD option for HD movies. They keep cracking the BD disc protection, then they close it, then they crack it again. It seems that games might never be cracked.

The US version is well worth it. You can pick one up new from ebay for around £20. It is region free.

I agree that the picture quality is extraordinary for a movie so old.

Next weeks releases:

Due for release on 12/05/2008

Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem (2) (Blu-ray)
Predator (Blu-ray)
Signs (Blu-ray)
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Blu-ray)
Helvetica (Documentary) (Blu-ray)
Shall We Dance (Blu-ray)

Might pick up Predator, I have the collectors edition on DVD but it's always worth another purchase.

Got a HDTV at the weekend so it's time to pick up a couple of Blu Ray movies. Any outstanding ones out there at the moment?

Here are a few I recommend

The Prestige
3:10 to Yuma
Reign Over Me
The Spiderman Trilogy
Planet Earth
30 Days of Night
Casino Royale
The Condemned
Eastern Promises

That lot should get you started. All with top notch reference picture quality.

May pick up Casino Royale, still not seen it and I enjoy the Bond movies. (The modern ones more than the older ones).

Cheers
