The Daily Show / Colbert Report

Any fans?

I love both shows, but find Jon Stewart more political involved. He sure give it to republicans, and especially calls on the Fox News bullshit.
Colbert has a more comic show. His conservative republican parody is awesome.

Was just watching the episode of January 7th of Colbert again. The bit about O'riley comments on Hawaii's Asians and his comments on racial stereotypes that followed were just funny as hell. He hit everyone, asians, latinos, african-americans, jewish, women... The technical problems bit was so funny.
Anyone caught that? Can't find it on youtube...

Been watching Daily Show since about 2000, I remember it before Jon Stewart was host. It was less politicized then. In fact my favourite era for it was when Colbert was one of the correspondents on the Daily Show, he produced brilliant interviews and reports and his chemistry with Stewart was hysterically funny to watch.

I missed the days when Stewart rips POTUS George W apart. Too much Obama love these days so he sticks to retarded Republicans.

I should preface this by stating that I don't watch the Daily Show as much as I use to

A couple things I have noticed from watching a few shows recently:

- The correspondents simply aren't what they used to be. That Jessica Williams doesn't have a comedic bone in her bone. I miss Colbert, Carell, and Corddry.

- It was during the later part of the 1st term and the early part of the 2nd term of the presidency of George Bush that I really feel like Stewart reach his pinnacle; both in terms of show quality and his influence. It was like clock work back then; I swear at least once a week he would have an almost poetic monologue that tore that administration apart far better then any Democrat political could have hoped to. I don't know if there was just more material, or if he simply had better writers, but he was truly brilliant back then. Today, it seems like him and his team have lost that spark. Maybe it's because he already destroyed O'Reilly and Beck and he can't find a new target. I just feel like the quality of his rants aren't of the standards as they used to be

Oh, and speaking of the good ole days, his 9/11 monologue was a thing of beauty.

He really tore republicans on usual bases. And the opposition on Obama is most of the times moronic, especially Fox News. He gives some rants that are amazing. The correspondents are OK, the english guy (Brian Williams) is hit and miss. Al Madrigal is awesome, and the girls are usually poor.

But to compete with Colbert and Carrell is unfair.

The Daily Show isn't funny enough for me to tolerate Jon Stewart's biases now. I was particularly turned off when they introduced that really fit black girl, who's only job seems to only require her to be really fit, black and a woman. The English guy has his moments, but they are rare. The rest of the cast are rubbish.

Colbert on the other hand, is on top form right now. Mostly because I guess his show is still primarily a show that satirises politics, whereas Stewart has now evolved into a very political show which has comedic elements.

I’ve been a fan of both shows for a few years. As other posters have already alluded to, the quality of material displayed may have marginally declined once the Republicans lost control of the White House in 2008. The Daily Show reporters have generally been disappointing, although John Oliver sometimes comes up with decent segments. Nonetheless, their common mockery of Fox News is always entertaining, the election season coverage was particularly good in that regard.

I personally prefer Colbert’s satirical look at right wing agendas through the perspective of a phantom conservative figure. Some of his other segments like his ‘investigative’ interviews never disappoint in eliciting some humorous moments. So overall, both programs have the capacity to create excellent episodes, unfortunately these high-quality episodes have been far harder to come by lately.

They came back for a bit. But I think Members aren't so up for looking stupid as they used to be. I love his interviews though, and I hate Stewart's. Stewart takes it far too seriously.

I prefer Stewart's interviews. I hate when Colbert books an interesting guest who I actually want to see and then there is almost no actual content, just Colbert messing with the guest the whole time.

Oh really; but isn't that kind of the point of the show? Stewart is slowly turning into Bill Maher, and Bill Maher is fucking annoying. And I quite enjoy Colbert messing with the guests and parodying the whole 'talking head' format. Stewart is starting to take himself seriously, and that's good for some people, but I hate it.

Jon Stewart won’t be sitting at his “Daily Show” desk this summer.

The comedian, who hosts the late-night spoof news show, will be taking at 12-week break from TV this summer to try his hand at directing. In his absence, John Oliver is set guest-host the show, according to a press release issued by Comedy Central.

The break will give Stewart the opportunity to direct “Rosewater,” a serious film he wrote based on the book “Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival.”

The book, by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy, tells the true story of Bahari’s experience when he was detained in an Iranian prison on suspicion of being a spy. He was kept in Iran shortly after being interviewed by “Daily Show” correspondent Jason Jones in 2009.

The film will be a major gear shift for Stewart, who is almost synonymous with late-night satire. The “Daily Show” has won 18 Emmy Awards since Stewart began hosting in 1999.

“One of the reasons we are in this business is to challenge ourselves,” Stewart told the New York Times, “and I really connected to Maziar’s story. It’s a personal story but one with universal appeal about what it means to be free.”

He told the Times the long-term project would be a big change for him.

“I am a television person who is accustomed to having a thought at 10 a.m. and having it out there at 6:30 p.m. and moving on, so this is a little scary, yes.”

Oliver is currently a regular on the “Daily Show” and has worked as a writer and a correspondent for the series since 2006. He will host the show for eight weeks, beginning in June, while Stewart works on “Rosewater,” and the other four weeks will overlap with the show’s usual summer hiatus.

A rep for Jon Stewart did not immediately return FOX 411’s request for comment.
Interesting news. I hope this isn't a sign that he's looking at possibly leaving completely.

Stewart lost a bit of his bite when the people he wanted in Office, got in Office. Colbert on the other hand benefited from playing the heel in a Democratic government.

Yeah I think that was always going to be the case once Bush, and to an extent Beck were no longer there in opposition but I still watch it religiously and they have some truly brilliant episodes.

The loss of some of the correspondents hasn't helped either.

It's still a good show and better with Jon Stewart in it. I don't see him leaving on a permanent basis as the Daily Show is his baby.

John Oliver is going to be annoying as the main host however. He might end up being the reason why The Daily Show fails to win an Emmy next year.
