Christ almighty this is sadistic.
I must have gone from the bonfire on the bridge, all the way up and around to the Taurus Demon about half a dozen times last night. 2 swipes and I'm dead. Every time. I wouldn't mind but there's zero time to down one of those flasks after the first hit so basically if he gets me once I'm toast. Lost 3000 souls on one run. Couldn't stop playing though. I'll have him tonight. |

I love the messages that get left, although I am sometimes a bit weary of the ones that read "you're safe here" and "drop down here." |

Yeah, I've found those messages to be mostly helpful so far.
Also, what's the craic with these ghostly apparitions that appear and look like they're fighting someone? Is that an echo of me before I died or someone else? |

the ghostlies are other folk that have died there, if you touch their blood stain it shows you how they met their fate, i find them most useful when it comes to judging ledges, if you see the ghost fall to his death its fairly safe to say you cant drop down there!
there's an easy-ish way to beat taurus if you want it Spoiler

the first merchant is just by the first burg bonfire. from the bonfire head right, taking out all the enemies and on your left is a small section with 2 spear guards, be very wary of them at low levels they hit very hard, be sure to pull them one at a time. after taking them out roll through the boxes on the left of the area, a staircase is under them which leads down to the merchant. be wary of an ambush too!

As Aaron says, though, if you click on a bloodstain, you will see how the person who left it there died. |

I didn't want to touch the bloodstains as I'd heard about people coming in to your game and kicking your arse. Thought it might be something to do with that. |

Also, in the spiral staircase that goes up to the bridge with the Taurus Demon, I opened a door and went down stairs and some cnut with a big fuck off club chased me all the way up and beat the shit out of me. What's his problem?

To summon other players into your world you have to be in human form. Look around for a white sign on the ground and select OK to summon help. These signs don't appear if you are hollow. Look for them on the ground near bonfires and in front of the gray fog boss gates. This is where people will most likely place them. |

I'm all Drake sworded up now and ready to rock. I just need a decent shield to complement it. Haven't upgraded my rags yet either.
Is the best policy in this just to drop all the crap you pick up off dead scum as you go along? |

Hollow Soldier Sheild is the best starting shield i found, unless you get a black knight one drop.
Get a bottomless box from the undead merchant, its pricey early on but well worth it for storing excess gear, there's not a great deal of point in keeping a lot of the crap as you cant sell it on until late in the game and the rewards are somewhat paltry, try to keep at least one piece of everything though i've never bothered upgrading armor, its certainly not worth the cost on your first playthrough, improve your weapons instead |

yeah, the box is only for inventory management really but i found it useful for keeping your menu decluttered
once i got the gold hemmed armor set i never bothered with any others, i only use light stuff generally plus i've a really good shield fairly sure the BKs can climb ladders! |

I think there was supposed to be DLC for Demon's Souls. There are 5 Archstones and a 6th broken one, which was never used, in the end.
For some reason they never went ahead with it. |

I've just got back into this lately and carried on from where I left it (getting hammered by the Bell Tower Gargoyles).
Since then I've beaten both of those clowns, dildo boy, butterfly bitch, sexy spider lady, toothy dragon, fire demon and minotaur boy. I'm a bad ass samurai/pyro with a level 10 katana, level 11 pyro and a cool horned helmet. Oh and I've got that ring that let's you do flips and stuff. Great game. Just entered this Indiana Jones style temple last night guarded by snake people and booby traps. Looks tough. |

It's worth perservering with imo.
When you've levelled up a bit and got some cool gear it will click. Like I said, I struggled with it at first and left it for a few weeks but I can see why it's so highly rated now. The way the world links together is an amazing achievement really. |

Thinking of starting this soon. Are people still active online? I played Demon Souls much later on and it seemed like no one was playing. I never managed to summon any help or get invaded.

Picked this up the other day £20 for the limited edition. Started it with all the talk of how hard it was in mind. Spent 15 mins battling the asylum demon with the sword hilt before realising there was a tunnel! I was playing thinking people weren't kinding this is solid and its only the first guy.

It gets easier as you level up. I finished it last night and was at level 100. The last few bosses didn't stand a chance.
Hands down one of the best games I've ever played. One thing I overlooked was the soundtrack which is an incredible piece of work. Only really paid close attention when this started up during the final fight... I expected another big operatic piece with chanting and the full works but when this kicked in it really jarred. Very melancholic. This one was creepy as hell too... |

Really enjoying it at the moment, no matter how much I die. Spent time exploring the fire link place got slaughtered by skeletons then went to the unread burg or what ever its called. It's so in unforgiving. I was farming souls last night an talked to the guy behind the bars and pressed circle to many times an fell off the cliff. Had to go all the way back to the bonfire. What are the guilds for?

The covenants?
Most of them are based around the online aspect but there are some cool little benefits to joining certain ones (weapons, shortcuts etc...) . I joined about 6 different ones in my play through. |

I got to the sewers months ago buy thought I'd give it rest and play when 'focused'.....incredible game but there's nothing at all casual about it. Need to get back into it - maybe after Mass Effect 3.
