That's how I got to him in the first place.

You need the basement key.

You two have completely monopolised this thread

I'm going to give Demon Souls a go to see if I'm sadistic enough to like this.

I actually think this is easier than Demon's Souls simply because when you're dead you don't only have half health. Now that was a pain in the arse.

Trust me, it's comforting to know that someone else is going through the same hell as you.

You need all the help you can get.

Yes! Beat the bastard,

Spoiler
Run up the stairs, the dogs follow so take them out before the big guy gets up there. At the top of the stairs you can walk on the top of some trees that he can't get on to, so walk onto that and hit him with some ranged stuff and ff he gets too close fall off. Again he takes ages getting down the stairs so hit him with some ranged, but with me he still tried to attack and sometimes fell off the stairs. When he does that he's stunned for a few seconds so wail on him, rinse and repeat.

I don't think my character is nimble enough. Too weighed down. I can barely make the stairs. My only ranged attack is the Soul Arrow which isn't up to much.

I am trying to kill the Hydra at the minute. The ice fuckheads are annoying me, though, so I've just stocked up on firebombs.

I'm down in the sewers, and trust me save a few firebombs for down here. Oh and seriously kill that big fella with the club in the watchtower, he drops a ring that might help with your nimble...ness. He's easy enough just time consuming, all i did was strafe round him.

Just beat the boss in the sewers, he's a big 'un alright. But it follows the rule of thumb in this game if it has a big tail it can be cut off.

Spoiler
Holy shit balls, cut it's tail off Lance the weapon it drops has a 360 damage rating. Nearly twice as much as the Drake sword! Although you need 50 strength to be able to use it properly.

I don't know what's going on. I was cursed in the sewer (which cuts your health in half until you are healed) and died. I was revived at Firelink Shrine. As I went to take the lift up, I was attacked by two characters who were guarding some woman in a hood. I killed them. She tried to leg it, so I killed her, too. She didn't fight back.

I killed the guy who teaches miracles by mistake way earlier in the game. One of the protectors looked like him. Fucked if I know.

Nice, well killing the boss in the sewers gives you about 20,000 souls. Which i then lost after being knocked off a ledge twice

I think i'm gonna have a break from it now, been killed a few times trying to fight a guy on a very narrow bridge and i think my mind needs a while to cool off.

I killed

Spoiler
the huge rat

but eventually fell into a room filled with

Spoiler
these bug eyed creatures who appeared to fart on me, which killed me instantly and left me cursed.

How did you avoid that?

What level are you? I have just hit 28.

Spoiler
There's a cheap way to kill the big rat. There's some barrels behind the butcher fella and if you break those there's a hole that leads to an area above the rat where you can stand and chuck firebombs or spells and he just stands there and takes it.

Don't avoid the big eyed things, when they jump in the air just run behind them and hack away. That might be easier for my fella as he's probably a fair bit lighter but the fog they spray doesn't go that far so you could just stand back and chuck some firebombs at them.

I'm level 16 i think.

That's how I killed the turd.

It will be tomorrow before I venture back on. It is emotionally draining playing for long periods.

Some guys on another forum are like level 81 already and deny they are mega nerds.

I might buy this game and complete it effortlessly for the lulz. Or not, as I don't want to smash 10 controllers.

Not spent anywhere near the amount of time on this as I'd like as I've (read : the Missus) had plans all weekend

Put a couple of hours into it this morning and made my way round to open the gate behind the metal boar. I struggle to fuck with the black knights, I've got to the point where I'm just running from them I must have been chased by 4 at once half way across the level at one point!

Think I'll invest in some arrows and try to get this drake sword, maybe that'll help with em

Kills you instantly. You then revive with your health cut in half. The only way to remove it is to visit the guy in the bell tower and buy a purging stone for 3000 souls.

Getting from the Depths to there with half your energy is far from easy. If you try going back towards the boss and get cursed again, you will revive with a quarter of your health bar.

I must have been very lucky on my run through there then, i got a bar appear when i walked into the spray but it never filled up.

On a sidenote i just got found an amazing set of armour, nearly twice as good as the stuff i was wearing before (and lighter). It makes me look a bit like those things from Lord of the Rings though, the ones in black that wailed a lot.

Love it, but i still feel like i've got a long, long way to go. I read that the Drake Sword is only useful for less than a quarter of the game and it's still working wonders for me now! I think it's a bit more friendly (curses and boss fights aside) than Demon's Souls and the little messages seem more useful this time round.

It's game of the year so far, there's a fair few blockbusters coming out soon but they'll have to go some to beat this.

Spoiler
I'm in an area now that is filled with multiple versions of bosses i've fought so far, but it's either plow through here or backtrack a hell of a long way. I'm very tempted to start backtracking.

EDIT: Took one down with my best fire spell went back to the bonfire to restock it and the bastards respawned, fuck that i'm getting out of here.

Is he the one in the watchtower underneath undead burg?

All i did was strafe round him, wait until he attacked and hit him a couple of times when he was picking his weapon back up then went back to strafing. Took ages to take him down as i was only whittling away tiny bits of health but he didn't touch me.

I just upgraded my Drake Sword by the way, now 220 damage

What did you use on him?

My brother upgraded his earlier. I am still trying to kill the Hydra. It's weird, I cut off a bunch of it's heads, then suddenly, I fall away into nothing. I don't know if it's a bug or what. One minute, knee deep in water, the next, falling. Annoying.

Just the Drake Sword on him, slowly but surely beating him. Speed is useful against him so stick on some light armour, lock on and strafe round him with your shield up just in case.

Spoiler
He drops a ring that increases your equipment load max, it was very useful to me as my endurance was shite and i wasn't rolling more bellyflopping.

I've not tried the Hydra yet, i headed into the valley of drakes but a giant skeletal dragon threw up on me and i died. And surely cutting the heads off a hydra is a bad idea?

Turns out Darkroot Garden is huge. I just encountered a bunch of much tougher tree shitbags. Then something that I don't quite understand happened. Some guy shot a soul arrow at me, and then it was like I was attacked by a bunch of other player's ghosts.

I legged it.
