Although they did this year do a deal with another company to also produce LCD panels, so in the future this will not necessarily be the case.

On a budget (as I will be when I buy one) I'd go for a Samsung.

Apologies Weaste, I was shitfaced when I posted this last night.

I'm basically after a 42" LCD, for around £700-800. I've looked at so many my head is fucking spinning.

Well, Sony don't do 42" for Europe, so it is going to be 40 or 46.

I like the KDL40W4000, but it's probably out of your price rage. Try looking at the KDL40V3000, Amazon have it going for 775 quid ATM.

what i meant. there's only a fraction of difference between both of them and im not willing to spend a fortune because of that slight difference.

Cheers Weaste. I'd noticed since posting that Sony don't do a 42'' LCD.

I'll have a look at the KDL40V3000

Ive got a 71'' LG LCD Rear Projection in my room, its fantastic...Picture is Super and its an absolute monster of a TV...

The reason i got that rather than LCD / Plasma was at the time it was amazing value, and The LCD/Plasma's had not dropped in price...

Fantastic for watching Sport and playing Xbox on it!

71" is just unnecessary. That's ridiculous

The size is important depending on resolution and viewing distance. If you have a 1080p TV 40" for example and sit say 15 foot away, it will look not much better, if at all, than a 720p TV of a similar size. There are charts that can show you optimum viewing distances.

They're not bad the LG's from what I've seen, although the contrast ratio of 5000:1 is not all that great tbh.

The higher the ratio the better the blacks will be.

Yes I know, that's racist
