Finding Good Music...

...has become extremely difficult there days. Does anyone else feel the same way?

The only recent album I liked was Collective Soul's new release.

It has actually reached a stage where I'm starting the like the Beatles; a thought I'd have dismissed until a month or so ago...

On the plus side Doc, you rate Apocalypse Now very highly, so you're always a man of taste in my book.

Aye. Recently got into them after a recommendation at the Caf itself.

Care to name some of the other bands you like Eyepopper?

thanks Salvation.

one of the best things to do is to find bands you've never heard of and investigate their back catalogue. Eyepopper has you on the right road.

another band (from Canada) formerly known as the Blue Meanies (they got in trouble) now the New Meanies. find some of their shit, they're fantastic.

I like Toad the Wet Sprocket as well. I'll get into the other two. Please keep those recommendations coming in.

What I recently realized is that music is best cherished when the lyrics reflect your thoughts. Hardly a discovery of Euclidean proportions, I know, but I find very few bands that reflect the state of mind in which I am and provide the music that I like. Hence the recent feeling of dearth of quality bands.

You've done the best thing you could for a music drought, start a thread about it.

Did an Electronica one the other week and have subsequently, through that and other sources, found about 20-30 new albums of various genres and am slowly working my way through them, found some fucking gems so far, really great albums.

It depends. If you like Collective Soul, there are some bands that play like them currently.

Isnt difficult find good music but you must know what you like and the way to search it.

Get last.fm, start listening away (or import your iTunes plays) and after a while you'll get reccomendations of other artists based on the ones you've listened to.

It's worked fantastically well for me so far.

Exactly. I`ve got into dozens of new artists through having LastFM. Currently obsessing over Japanese groups like Boredoms, OOIOO and Melt-Banana.

It is always difficult to recommend music to others. It's damn near impossible unless you know the person very well. The changes in music are interpreted different ways in the ear of one person as it is in the ears of another. I mean, a Cm-G7 will not be received the same way by me as it will be by you. Of course, you can always point someone in a direction they wouldn't have chosen themselves.
In my experience, when music has been dulling down or getting boring, I as others here have gone down memory lane, playing the nostalgia card until something comes along, or I stumble upon a new band or something. If you are really lucky, you stumble upon a whole new genre or something you wouldn't expect, and can explore.
The last time that happened for me, was when I was watching A Love Song For Bobby Long. At the time the music seemed magical to me, inspiring. This led me to know Grayson Capps, and a whole new world of music opened up for me to explore. However, it is very difficult to explore local talent in the New Orleans area when you live 1.000's of miles away, but the internet helps

Unfortunately not into either soul (Jeff Buckley aside) or house music James, but appreciate the offer nonetheless.

Oui

Take the highway to the end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Take a journey to the bright midnight
End of the night, end of the night

Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night, end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
