This is the 451 I use, mainly use it in Lower League games, but it works equally well with big teams....

That's the way to play the 4-5-1, with the wingers going into the strikers positions, i also do this, i find if you don't the wingers will not contribute enough goals. I don't put a midfielder going into the AM position, i will try this though. I like the central midfield to be a solid triangle, i put them on forward runs and let them both attack the box naturally.

Yeah, true. I have the right sided CM more attacking the left sided one. When the wingers are played like that they can either be brilliant, or terrible. The key is to have quick players with good finishing and composure. Provided they are on full closing down, the defensive duties take care of themselves.

Is there a genie scout programme for this out yet?

Yes, there is. But it only works for a season, you don't need it though because the scouting system is more than good enough on 2008. There is a program called mini-scout which is a handy little thing.

To be honest I would only play FM2008 if I could use genie scout to tell me which 16 year old has 195-200 potential. Then I would by said 16 year old, and get bored of the game before they even become remotely good.

Try hiring scouts, they are much better because they come back with players you can actually buy when you are a small club or you could do the easy but kinda time consuming task of looking through the U21's of the international nations, I find this is the best way to get the best young players and more rewarding. The only good use programs have is for finding out how much it is to buy players, but all you have to do is enquire or make a reasonable bid..

Chris Keenan, he can be a little inconsistent for the first 2 seasons but still top class. Heres what he looks like after around 5 seasons.. Perfect for the lower leagues but can be hard to keep hold of.

I would also suggest making a 4-1-4-1 formation to see out games with 10 mins to go if you are 1-0 up. Defensive and counter attacking.
Thanks lads. For some reason Chris Keenan doesn't appear to be in my game. I will hunt around and see if I can dig out a bargain.

Just a question, lads....for you guys who play it, how old are you?

I used to play the old CMs when I was much younger, and I'm thinking of starting to play it because of you lot and the numerous references to FM throughout all the forums.

I know that you're never too old to do anything as long as you enjoy it, but I just feel that if I pick it up again at my age (i'm not telling you how old i am), i'll just be childish, irresponsible, and wasting my time when I should be focusing on my career.

So guys, tell me how old you are. Maybe if you guys are all kids, I'm right to not pick it up!

i know plenty of blokes up to their 40's who play it religously. Find it a touch sad, if they're addicted to it, but a bit every now and then is fine for anyone at any age...
I'm only 17 myself though.

19.

I get FM after the january patch comes out, then i pick a English Conference North/South team and play about an hour every 2 days, if that. Pathetic really because i will only play with that 1 team until the next january, but it's just boring and too easy otherwise. FM is great to kill some time hear and there, much like TV, playstation, browsing the web ect.

I'm 20 and i still love it. Older people that plays it usually spends more time on finding the right tactics etc. At least that's what my dad does.

I get a migrain every now and then concerning tactics in FM 2008. Why did they have to make it so fucking hard? Just when it seems you've hit gold by beating Barca 2:0 with Athletic Bilbao, you lose to some rubbish teams.

Nah, 28's grand. I'm 26 and still play away on it. There's never anything on telly nowadays anyway, so you're better off winning the Champions League with Kettering, than watching the Hollyoaks omnibus or something.

I'm playing with Southampton too mate, just started last week. Finished 2nd first season so automatic promotion

Few brilliant young players in the squad to start off with - Bialkowski, Lallana, Surman, Dyer, Jake Thomson have all done really well. Hopefully I'll be able to in time bring back some of the other former Saints like Bale, Cranie and Walcott.

I was talking to a mate of mine today and he's made me reinstall it :P (in the mood for it).

I usually cheat a bit here and there (like restart important games if needed) this time i'm going to go completely cheat free. I'll probably start as someone like West Ham (want to be a half sensible team) My goal is to try to get them into europe. (We'll see about that)
