No he wasn't, besides I doubt he gives a fuck. Despite the fact he put on a decent enough show, the crowd were bigger for Winehouse by all accounts. Plus ticket sales being drastically low at first also doesn't seem to suggest it was that good a move.

I've nothing against Jay-z or hip hop in general, but at Glastonbury?

I think the problem is that having Jay Z as a headline act really put alot of regular glasto goers off.

I'm not saying don't have JayZ there, i think he is entertaining. To be fair as hip hop goes one of the most innovative artists around.

But headline? No, not for me. I think if he was a little further down the bill fine.

Just an opinion really.

As far as i am concerned i beat the Glasto crew hands down with the two gigs i have seen this weekend. Riding he crest of a wave me

I haven't been on RR since Moscow mate, I was going on a forum break (didn't work as I got drawn back on here) as I was spending far too much time on them. I'll check back in in the next day or two.

Not heard much John Mayer lad, I'll have a listen when I get back from Radiohead as I'm winding myself up for this gig right now.

Also, not sure if this is your cup of tea or not but this lass is supporting Radiohead so I checked her out and it's fecking class, if you like Bjork, Portishead, PJ Harvey etc you'll love this.

Thats a good point, making him a headliner was going a bit too far.

I'm all for different genres of music at festivals. Wondering around seeing what you stumble across is a cracking part of it.

Just not as a headline act. Him coming onto wonderwall was amusing given the circumstances, even if it showed why the daft cunt should rap and not sing

fair play to him

Saying all this though lad, Glasto has always had it's non rock/indie headliners, and some that are regarded as classic sets too, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Underworld are fine examples of this.

aye true

I think JayZ and the hip hop trail is slightly different though in many people eyes.

Whether it's the 'rap' thing i don't know.

To be fair non of the above acts are particularly my thing either...but they went down well.

Oh and stop tryin to fackin mug me off you caaaant

It probably is different as I think the acts I mentioned were more crossover acts in as much that the indie crowd would listen to that kind of music as well as there usual genre, myself being one of these types, not sure hip hop is the same in that regard, at least not to the same degree anyway.

Indeed, great music will always crossover to the wider masses, when I was younger bands such as Metallica (Black Album), Faith no More (The Real Thing, Angel Dust) and Nirvana (Nevermind) were the ones that every cunt seemed to have in their collections no matter what their predominant music tastes seemed to be.

They were fucking great, not sure what's happened to them, it's about time they reformed and did a reunion tour or something, I regret never seeing them live.

Right...

I'm back.

I am not doing drugs of the illegal variety, ever, ever again (barring a wee puff from time to time).

Yes i am a prick.

Moving along swiftly...

Last years wristband is clearly sewn with:

"Festival of contemporary perfomance arts"

Or a variation of those words.

My point being that Miss Eavis had every right to book Jay-Z - who had every right to be playing his music at the festival. I don't mind an outspoken rock star, but, Mr Gallagher has made a bit of a prat out of himself here - speaking for people who already have a voice and whom attended a good performance by Mr Z.

Now; i wouldn't expect Jay-Z to be playing at Glastonbury again, not for a long time anyways - therefore i see it as highly unlikely that i will be seeing him, live, ever again, but i am pleased to have done so.

If you didn't go, or you didn't get to see, these are some of my favourite moments that can be viewed (most of) on the bbc website:

Seasick Steve - Was absolutely superb, an amazing musician, performer and storyteller. Must see.

Zion Train - Fantastic live band.

The Verve - Great performance, a fantastic ending to a great 5 days - Lucky Man, The Drugs Don't Work and Bittersweet Symphony. I cried.

Watching Murray do Gasquet here, will fill you in later peep gang.

Just too much.

I started a collection which soon got out of hand - over-zealous friends and all that jazz.

So...

I got there and obviously, first night, i had to get competely mashed.

Wasteful use of my serorotin.

Do i need it anymore?

Nay.

The coke is more prevalent around here - i think hibernation is the only answer.

Yep. And there are good genres, but also some ridiculously poor. Nothing wrong with pointing them out, hoping people will stop supporting the garbage. Although they won't.
