"24" and "Lost" are two of the best shows I've ever seen. I'd recommend 24 to anyone who hasn't seen it. As for Lost, I was about to give up on it midway through the first season but the last 7-8 episodes are breathtaking. I'm also midway through the second season and I think it's been great thus far, so obviously I disagree with the ones who say it's weak.

"24" is like an inconsistent footballer, on his day it can be fascinating while some other times it's mind boggling. I love it though.

Mythbusters needs a shout in this thread. I'm watching the pirate special now and it's great.

Nathan Barley. It didn't go down so well when it came out, but I think it's amazing. Written by Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker, starring Julian Barratt, the tall one from The Mighty Boosh. Only one series made, and it seems to be £10 on DVD in most places

Lost, Rome, Entourage, The Wire, Curb and Californication are the best recent ones IMO. I used to love 24 as well but I couldn't get into the last season.

Californication is my most recent discovery. It's a Charles Bukowski inspired series about a writer and his problematic life(ex-wife, stagnated career, booze, sex etc). Oh, and you get to see a tit in basically every episode. Lead actor is that guy from the X-Files. They start filming the second season soon.

Californication is awesome....

Though just discovered something new...

Anyone watch a show called Shark?
Takes a few episodes to get into, but still a good show.

Shark is good but nothing special. Just watched all the Soprano's in one month and now i'm starting the wire. The sopranos is probably the best serious TV show ever imho.

I love 24. But The Shield is fantastic. Vic Mackey is a legend. Great programme. I've also started to watch House. Quite good. And then the legendary Sopranos and NYPD Blue are always worth a watch,.

There's a HBO sitcom called Flight of the Conchords about a folk duo from New Zealand. They started out with a raido show on the BBC which I haven't heard, but the sitcom is well worth a look, it's hilarious

Anyone else like Dexter?

Saw the first 3 episodes on ITV and found it quite quirky and entertaining.

I love House; Hugh Laurie is fantastic.
I also like Casualty (although we are several seasons behind here in Canada) and I like Damages, a great series with Glenn Close. Also loved Life on Mars and I like Waterloo Road. Not too keen on most U.S shows I must say and Canadian shows are crap.

- Black Adder:
Finest comedy I've ever seen. Follow the life of Edmund Blackadder and his descendants, it makes fun at just everybody, and yet still managed to find a touching ending in the series. Rowan Atkinson was great as Blackadder and it helped that the rest of the cast was a bunch of talented actors as well.

- Life on Mars
After a freak accident, DI Sam Tyler found himself 30 years back to 1973, or was he? While Tyler was convinced that he was in a coma and all this was just a dream, he was faced with the possibility that probably all wasn't that simple. Forced to live a life he didn't want to he made the best of whats around to find a way to get back home.

Sam 'partnership' with DCI Gene Hunt, the head of the department was great. Both have very different method in solving crimes, but they always end up working together, and developed grudging respect towards each other. The best part is that it was located in Manchester, and Sam Tyler was portrayed as a United fan .

House MD
Hugh Laurie played a genius doctor who led a team of young doctors to diagnose patients with mystery illness. It was meant by the creator to be 'CSI against germs', but as the series developed the attraction of the series wasn't about investiganting the mysterious illness, but in the interaction between House and the other people around him. Laurie played the extremely smart, arrogant, anti-social, drug-addict House perfectly, supported by Robert Sean Leonard (Dead Poet Society) as Wilson, House only friend, Lisa Edelstein as Dr Cuddy, House boss, and Omar Epps, Jen Morisson and that Aussie bloke whose name I forgot made the House team. Season 1 and 2 was fantastic, 3 was okay, but 4 wasn't that good. I expect this to get canceled after season 5.

Entourage
Vincent Chase was living the dream as a hotshot new star in Hollywood. And so are his friends and brother. It take a fun and humorous way on portraying the life of the young, the rich and the famous in Hollywood. From dealing with sneaky agents, sleeping with gorgeous women, or smoking pots. Jeremy Piven played a part of his life as the foul mouthed and notorious agent, Ari Gold, who by far have the best lines on the series.

An old show which I thought was canceled to soon was Brimstone. It's about a cop, Ezekiel Stone (John Horton) who was sent to hell after he died because he killed the man who murder and raped his wife. After an outbreak that leads to 113 souls escape from hell, The Devil gives Stone a second chance, send back the souls to hell, and he'll have a second chance with his wife. John Glover was fantastic as The Devil, and his interaction with Stone was the highlight of the show. I think it got 11 episode before it got canceled.

Thanks for the tip, I will check out Californication. Hadn't even heard of it.

Love The Shield (season 7 coming in September), used to like 24 but now I find it completely unwatchable. I especially dislike the way somebody gets tortured every episode, and in nearly every case, it leads to the tortured person giving up exactly the information that is needed. Complete bullshit, and morally bankrupt given current events.

I know it's been said here many times before, but The Wire is the best show in the history of television. Better than anything I ever seen, TV or film. Absolutely loved it.

I just watched the first series of Sleeper Cell. Slightly reminiscent of 24 and very good indeed.
