VLC Player my good man.

There is no better player.

And it's free, so no patch needed.

VLC is a tub of shite. The only thing it has over WMP is a few different codecs, but it still has just as many problems. With codecs, WMP will play anything anyway.

WMP + CCCP pack + Matroska and I never have a single problem playing mkv, mp4, avi, or anything else - the same things giving me big problems with VLC. Besides, if you ever play something with subtitles on VLC its likely to take up half the screen.

This new player looks nice, but I'm pretty sure it'll have codec problems. Would still like a link to download the professional version if possible, to see for myself. Always a chance it'd be faultless.

Nah. MPlayer (which is free too) is better, but I don't know if it's available for Windows. VLC is a pretty safe bet for most codecs, but the problem with it is it's not updated very frequently iirc.

Links sent. VLC doesn't play my .mkv files very well. It becomes choppy, then the screen breaks up and goes white.
